Never underestimate a Libra Sun. The reason I say this is because so many people do. Libra, like fellow Air signs Gemini and Aquarius, is highly intellectual in their approach to life – a fact which often sees them coming off as somewhat affected characters.
But whatever Libra’s thinking, it’s impossible to discern as an outsider looking in. Libra’s principles (or lack thereof) are governed by logic and rationality even though they’re well aware that Truth is Subjectivity, as Kierkegaard once said.
Similarly, Libra’s method of action (or lack thereof) is the result of the firm, well-thought-out decisions, only after carefully weighing both sides equally, yet somehow, when presented, seems to be all about compromise – as if the whole thing was your idea.
Such is the Sphinx-like Libra, the Artful Dodger who may or may not have committed the crime, but is highly unlikely to ever do much (if any) serious time. Libra, ruled by Venus, is the only Cardinal Air sign of the Zodiac, gifting them with a rare combination of charm and psychological acuity in addition to physical beauty.
So potent is Libra’s natural power of attraction, in fact, that it typically belies (or at least distracts potential onlookers from) their ability to (silently) spot, stalk and analyze their prey.
Libra gets quite a boost in 2021, a far cry from the troubled waters of 2019 and 2020, when Saturn, the planet of Responsibility and Restriction, was moving through Capricorn, which may have felt like quite a draining period of both your physical and emotional energy.
This year, however, Saturn and Jupiter will move through Aquarius, bringing back a feeling of optimism and forward movement that may have been lacking. This inner boost of confidence is exactly what Libra needs to thrive in 2021, as their change in attitude and mindset, in turn, boosts their illustrious power of attraction.
As one of the four Cardinal signs of the Zodiac, Libra has that innate Control Freak in there, just like Aries, Cancer and Capricorn do. But because of its affiliation with Venus, the planet of Love and Money, Libra, unlike its opposite sign of Aries, is more than happy to allow their opponents to underestimate them as they quietly cash in on their compulsive competitive drive.
More than any other Sign, Libra loves Order. Preternaturally gifted with the ability to make sense out of nonsense, Libra is able to keenly discern between the two, allowing them to read between the lines in any situation.
As such, Libra isn’t the type to spend their time and devising strategies to outsmart The House, possessed as they are with the wisdom to focus their energy on outsmarting the opponents right in from of them.
Libra is a keen observer of human nature, preferring to watch and learn from the failures and successes of those around them before they hit the tables themselves. It’s this ability to learn not from their own mistakes, but from those of others, that Libra formulates their personal recipe for success.
Born with a Ph.D. in Social Graces, Libra is the Premier Bluffer of the Zodiac, able not only to perform the act themselves but to spot another bluffer simultaneously. Such talents give Libra an unparalleled edge in the game of Poker, whether they’re major players or only amateurs. Other such games don’t usually interest Libra, as they’re so naturally adept at games involving strategy.
Strategic thinking and a refined attunement to social psychology – not to mention their perpetually-heightened awareness of The Rules, regardless of the game – are what make Libra an (almost) unbeatable foe.
As the best bluffers on the block, Libra makes the most of whatever hand they’re dealt, ironically, simply by assuming that everyone else around them is bluffing too.
In doing so, Libra is able to put on a show of subtle theatrics to lure their opponent into a moment of distraction, in hopes they might elicit some weakness, or ‘tell’ in doing so. Such theatrics may include making their move while their opponent is seemingly distracted, taking your money before you even know what’s happened.
Either way, whether Libra decides to pick your pocket or subtly goad you to fold, they’ll smile sweetly at you all the while, quietly raking in the chips after casually having thrown down a pair of threes.
It’s no surprise, for instance, that Matt Damon (Libra) plays both the petty pickpocket and the Poker prodigy so well, starring in classics like Ocean’s Eleven and Rounders with ease.
Even in his seemingly auxiliary role in an elaborate casino heist, Damon’s Libra plays seamlessly to Clooney’s Taurus, eagerly allowing himself to be underestimated as he puts on the show of Newbie Protegee to Clooney’s Seasoned Criminal.
Misdirection is a Libra specialty, and by feigning lack of experience, the Libra gains access to the Big Leagues, which is exactly where they prefer to be. Libra Vladimir Putin has one of the best, natural Poker faces of all time, as even with that slightly smug smile, it’s pretty much impossible to tell what he’s thinking.
