Gulfstream Park Race History
Since 1939, Gulfstream Park has been hosting some of the biggest races in Florida. One of the most well-known races hosted there is the Florida Derby with the first running happening in 1952. Legendary horse Swaps set a track record back in 1955, but that wasn't the only popular horse to run the 1 1/8 mile dirt course.
Many horses who have run at Gulfstream Park and won the Florida Derby, have gone on to run or win the Kentucky Derby. In the 90s alone, Holy Bull and Cigar won at Gulfstream and went on to race the Kentucky Derby. Thunder Gulch went on to win the big race after winning the 1995 Florida Derby and Monarchos did the same in 2001.
The Pegasus World Cup has taken place here since 2017, giving Gulfstream two Grade 1 stakes races along with dozens of Grade 2 and Grade 3 races.
In addition, to live horse racing, Gulfstream Park Casino gives people a great way to enjoy their time on the grounds. They have 750 Las Vegas-style slot machines, nine electronic table games, and 20 live-action poker tables. And don't forget about dinner! Gulfstream Park has over 20 restaurants, bars, and nightlife to keep players entertained.
