Draftkings Partners With Del Lago to Launch Sportsbook Soon!

Del Lago Resort & Casino of Waterloo, New York which launched on 01 February 2017 has announced a partnership with the daily fantasy sports betting company, DraftKings Casino, to operate a sportsbook on their premises.

Following the US Supreme Court striking down PASPA laws in May of this year, effectively legalizing sports betting for states wishing to participate in this form of wagering, the New York legislature has been discussing amendments their own state legislation. To date, however, they have not managed to pass any definitive legislation.

A date for finalizing these laws has not yet been determined.

Accordingly, the agreement between Del Lago and DraftKings cannot manifest in reality any time soon until these laws are passed by the state. Both parties have said that just as soon as that becomes a reality, they are poised to go live, joining their neighbors in New Jersey who have been quicker out the gate with their own legislative provisions in putting NJ online casinos on the map.

DraftKings is already operating their first sportsbook at Resorts Casino AC in New Jersey, as they themselves evolve and diversify from being just a daily sports fantasy company to expanding into sports betting.

Jason Robins, DraftKings CEO said the following during the announcement “New York is one of the largest revenue opportunities for future sports wagering operators. We are thrilled to partner with Del Lago Resort & Casino to offer sports fans a unique and novel sports betting experience, both at a physical sportsbook and on mobile when permitted.”

The matter of a mobile and internet-based sports wagering option is critical to future growth and success, over-and-above offering services at bricks-and-mortar locations in the state.

DraftKings & Del Lago are All Set

DraftKings Casino’s enthusiasm has been matched from Del Lago’s side with their co-chairman Brent Stevens saying, “We see DraftKings as a fantastic and strategic partner in our sportsbook operation at Del Lago Resort & Casino, and this deal represents a tremendous move forward for our property in general.”

While precise details about the size and offerings of the sportsbook are unknown at this time, both parties have affirmed their commitment to offering land-based and online wagering across the board as soon as possible.

Del Lago and another recently opened casino, Rivers Casino & Resort have both turned disappointing figures for their first year in operation. Sports betting might offer them a lifeline while the state government dilly-dally about offering them requested tax relief, which has not been forthcoming as yet, despite their urgent appeals.
