The PGA Tour is leaving Ohio and going to Minnesota, and we’re following the action with some 3M Open predictions for TPC Twin Cities!
This will be the seventh event back for the PGA Tour, and each of the previous six has been very popular to bet on at online sportsbooks in New Jersey and several other states. Even as more sports begin to restart their seasons, it’s no secret that golf betting is becoming more and more common, and here’s no reason things would change this week.
Despite the event only having one year of history, it still provides plenty of chances for profits, so let’s get into what to expect from TPC Twin Cities and get into our 2020 3M Open picks!
After playing consecutive events at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club, the scene shifts to the stomping grounds of another legend. TPC Twin Cities was designed by Arnold Palmer and for just the second year, it will host the 3M Open.
TPC Twin Cities, a longtime Champions Tour venue, is Par 71 for this event. It plays nearly 7,500 yards and the property features 27 bodies of water. For all its length and water hazard, however, the course has wide fairways and a couple of driveable Par 4 holes to go with a few Par 5s.
Here are some stats to consider when making 3M Open betting picks:
In the first iteration of the event, Matthew Wolff collected his first career win with a score of -21, and we could see some similar numbers at a track that isn’t considered to be nearly as challenging as Muirfield Village was for the Memorial. Not only will the course be much easier to navigate, but the field will be as well. After a star-studded cast in Ohio, there’s a huge drop-off in talent this week in Minnesota.

The expectation is that the scores will undoubtedly be low, as last year 52 players finished at -10 or better and 22 of those got to -14 or better.
Golfers to target this can definitely get off the tee and are good approach players, especially from short distances with a wedge or low iron in their hand. Players who can make putts and grab birdies on both Par 5s and some of the easier Par 4s are another thing to look for.
Once you’re signed up, consider the following 2020 3M Open predictions:
Last week wasn’t quite Finau’s week, but maybe this one is. With a lesser field in place for this event, it’s hard to go away from one of the few star players who is in solid form. He’s one of the favorites on all sites and currently just +1200 on BetMGM, though that number is higher elsewhere.
Muirfield Village played extremely difficult in comparison to what we’ll see this week and through two days at the Memorial, Finau led the field in total strokes gained and had top 15 numbers with the putter, on approach, and off the tee. He faltered a bit over the weekend but still managed a top-10 finish at Jack’s place, and we expect to see another good performance.
Finau finished T-23rd in the inaugural edition of this event and we think once he sees the TPC Twin Cities layout again, he’ll put on a show. Finau is a bomber off the tee and currently dialed in both with his irons and on the greens. If he avoids the water, Finau feels like a great option for 3M Open picks for both outright and finishing position.
In a field without many stars, we’re forced to dig a bit deeper when looking for betting opportunities and this week is a great example. Glover has quietly played extremely well since the restart, posting four top-25 finishes before he slipped to T-38th after a rough weekend at the Memorial.
Glover ranks pretty well in several key stats including Ball Striking and Strokes Gained: Approach, and he was top 25 in approach during last year’s event with a tougher field to compete with.
Heading into a tournament where he went T-7th (-16) a year ago, Glover’s odds have some value (especially at BetMGM) and he could be worth a longshot look like one of your 3M Open predictions, even for a finishing position wager such as top 20 (+125 at DraftKings).

If you’re looking to win money betting on golf outside of selecting who will win a given tournament, you need to check out wagering on finishing positions. This is a great way to maintain a rooting interest throughout the entire tournament and still give yourself a chance at ending the weekend with some profits, even if lines are much more modest.
Think about some of the following golfers if betting on 2020 3M Open odds for finishing position, using odds from DraftKings:
We noted above why we like Finau to follow up his top 10 at the Memorial with another huge performance against a weak field at TPC Twin Cities. He ranks 11th in Strokes Gained: Tee-To-Green, 28th in SG: Approach, and eighth in Par 4 Efficiency from 450 to 500 yards.
Finau should be able to overpower this course so if he can avoid the water and giving away strokes, we could be looking at a worthwhile selection for 3M open picks. A heavy favorite in a top 20 slot means taking on much lesser odds but sometimes you pay the price for a wager that should (in theory) be a very simple victory, especially if you also put something on Finau to win the whole thing.
Casual golf fans may not hear much about South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen but we are betting everyone hears the name at least a few times this week. The University of Minnesota product returns to the North Star State after a solid T-22nd at the Memorial last week.
Simply put, van Rooyen has the approach and tee-to-green game to do damage at TPC Twin Cities, ranking 20th in the former and 22nd in the latter. He was in the top five among the field at the Memorial in both categories, with a much tougher field to compete against. At +200 odds, we’ll gladly take a shot with EVR to double our money.
The 22-year old Clemson product has made 15 of 20 cuts this season and since the return of the PGA Tour has finished in the top 40 on three of five occasions. He had a week off before missing the cut at the Memorial, which means he’s well-rested and ready to go at a venue which he should be able to tear up.
Redman played this event and struggled last year but we aren’t too worried. He is a top-10 tour player in Ball Striking and a top-15 player in Strokes Gained: Approach, two areas where he’s going to have an advantage over much of the field. Throw in decent tee-to-green stats and his work on Par 4s (450-500 yards), and we’ve got a recipe for a strong finisher this week.
We will continue to add and update selections until players tee off on Thursday, so check back throughout the week once all of the 2020 3M Open betting odds are posted!
