As we move forward with the early part of the PGA Tour schedule, it’s time to hand out some 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship predictions!
The fourth event of the 2020-21 season will take place from October 1 through 4 at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. Even though there will be some big names taking the week off, there’s no doubt that there will still be tons of action for this annual event.
The overall popularity of betting on golf at online sportsbooks in New Jersey and several other states has grown immensely since the sport returned in June. What people love about betting on the PGA Tour is that golf has a variety of markets, lucrative odds, and its ability to provide a rooting interest for several days at one time.
The action has been plentiful every weekend, through the TOUR Championship and into the beginning of this new year with an early-season US Open and six majors on the schedule between September and July.
So without any more delay, let’s get into what to expect from the course this week and make our 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship picks!
The Sanderson Farms event has been a staple on the early portion of the PGA Tour schedule since 1968, having moved to the Country Club of Jackson beginning with the 2014 edition of the tournament.
Measuring at around 7,440 yards and playing to a Par 72, CC of Jackson is a pretty long course, although much of that length actually comes from the Par 3s and Par 5s. Here are some PGA Tour stats to keep in mind when making Sanderson Farms Championship predictions:

Recently, this tournament has been a birdie-fest, with the winner reaching 18-under par in each of the past five years. Last year, Sebastian Munoz won at -18 after Cameron Champ won at -21 in 2018.
Between the short Par 4s and the four Par 5s, there are scores to be had so the players who are strong on approach and can make birdies are the ones to target here. The putting isn’t an all-important stat by itself because some poor putters have won this event in the past, but a hot stick on the greens can definitely lead to a victory here.
Once you’re signed up for an online sportsbook and ready to bet, consider the following 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship predictions:
We knew before the odds came out that Scheffler would likely be the favorite for this event, and we aren’t going to shy away now that he is at the top of the board.
Scheffler is coming off an awesome season which earned him 2020 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors as well as a fifth-place finish in the FedEx Cup standings. He is the most recent ‘Mr. 59’ after going super low at the first playoff event (The Northern Trust) and it’s only a matter of time until Scheffler is in the winner’s circle and it could be as soon as this week.
He ranked 33rd on tour in approach in 2020 and overall has an excellent tee-to-green game. He’s also got this history in this event, finishing T-16th last year. After some time off, expect Scheffler to come out hot as one of the very best players in this field.
Im struggled a bit post-restart but still managed to reach the TOUR Championship for the second straight season and finished 11th. Then, he showed up to the US Open and placed 22nd with one of the best Sunday scores in the field.
It also doesn’t hurt that he lost this event in a playoff last year and can handle CC of Jackson. In fact, Sebastian Munoz had to sink a 15-foot putt just to force the playoff, which means this should’ve actually been Im’s first PGA Tour win.
After a week off, we love Sungjae to get on a roll as he returns to iron-man form and plays nearly every event. He ranked 10th in the US Open field on approach and with a much lesser field to contend with here, he should do some damage on this leaderboard. He was also one of the most efficient golfers on short Par 4s last season.
Im is one of the favorites going into this event, but don’t hesitate to back the extremely consistent 22-year old as he gets going in his third PGA Tour season.
If you’re looking for a longshot with a chance to cash in a huge ticket for you, consider Rodgers. The 28-year old is fresh off a T-11th finish at Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship and frankly, could’ve had a chance to win if not for one bad round.
In general, Rodgers is a very good putter and decent Par 5 player whose issues with approach could be somewhat negated by reaching these easy-to-hit fairways. At +6600, he’s worth a look for your Sanderson Farms predictions.
Outside of selecting outright winners, another popular way to wager on golf is by going after finishing position markets. These lines are much more modest in comparison but these wagers have a much better chance of winning and can provide a rooting interest across the entire weekend. Think about some of the following golfers if making Sanderson Farm picks on finishing position:
The LSU product is in really excellent form, starting the season with a T-7th at the Safeway Open before performing well at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship last week.
Length certainly isn’t everything but he’s got it off the tee in spades, which will help with the tournament being played a month later in the year. The approach numbers do need to improve a bit, but we have seen positive signs early this season.
There is also the issue of history, which Burns has some of here. It was just a T-45th last year, but he did secure a T-3 at this event in 2018 by shooting -15. With a field that we expect to be somewhat similar, Burns might have a strong case as one of your Sanderson Farms betting picks.
We will continue to add and update selections until players tee off on Thursday, so check back throughout the week once all of the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship betting odds are posted!
