The PGA Tour is touching down in the Nevada desert, and we’re getting you prepared with our 2020 Shriners Open predictions!
This week, the tour stops just outside of Las Vegas for the 2020 Shriners Hospital for Children Open, being played from October 8 to 11. The event has been held at TPC Summerlin in the Nevada desert since 1992 and its relevance as a charitable event goes far beyond being just a tour competition.
As all of the early-season events have been, this one is sure to get plenty of action at online sportsbooks in New Jersey, PA, and several other states. The big-name stars are beginning to return to action following the US Open, so the field should draw plenty of interest.
What people love about betting on PGA Tour events is that golf provides a variety of markets, lucrative odds, and its ability to provide a rooting interest for several days at one time. Here, we’ll preview the upcoming event and analyze the odds before making our Shriners Open betting picks!
In terms of design, TPC Summerlin is a Par 71 course with three Par 5s on the nine, which could mean some excitement down the stretch on Sunday. The greens are larger than average, so you’re going to have to hit them and then make a few putts to rise up the leaderboard this week.
Here are some PGA Tour stats to keep in mind when making Shriners Open predictions:

With wide fairways and large greens, this is expected to be a birdie-fest, as Kevin Na won at -23 last year and Bryson DeChambeau won at -21 before that. The tournament is taking place at the same exact time of year as last year’s so we would expect somewhat similar scoring in the desert.
Between the short Par 4s and the four Par 5s, there are scores to be had. Most winners here do well tee-to-green and wind up getting hot with the putter. Once you’re signed up, consider the following 2020 Shriners Open predictions (UPDATE: Following Tony Finau’s withdrawal, we have added new golfers):
The PGA Tour’s iron man plays nearly every single week and has seemingly found the form that eluded him for a few weeks post-restart.
Im went into the Sanderson Farms as one of the favorites and barely made the cut, but then excelled on the weekend (especially on Sunday). Even with a more talented field, most of these guys will be hitting the course for the first time in weeks, which could give players like Sungjae an advantage.
In his one event at Summerlin, Im went -13 to finish T-15th and he profiles as a strong Shriners Open pick this week if he can find a groove with his putter. We also love Sungjae for a finishing position wager, and the odds for a top 30 finish at +120 are appealing.
Another way to win money is by selecting going after finishing position markets rather than outright winners.
The lines are much modest in comparison these bets are more likely to provide a rooting interest across the entire length of the tournament along with a much larger chance of winning once Sunday afternoon arrives.
Think about some of the following golfers if betting on 2020 Shriners Open picks for finishing position:
Cantlay will absolutely be a popular pick this week due to his history at TPC Summerlin, which is hard to overlook. The California native won the event in 2018, then had two runner-up finishes in a row at this event after losing to Kevin Na in a playoff here last year.
He was one of the top birdie-or-better players on Par 5s last season and profiles as an awesome tee-to-green player. In an environment where we know he’s comfortable, what’s not to like?
The one thing we’ll say is that the law of averages would tell us that another top-three finish is unlikely, plus we don’t want to take the same golfers as everyone else, so we are choosing to play it slightly safe with Cantlay and take him to finish in the top 20.
We will continue to add and update selections until players tee off on Thursday, so check back throughout the week once all of the 2020 Shriners Open betting odds are posted!
