The PGA Tour is on its way to Memphis and we’re following the action with some St. Jude Invitational predictions for TPC Southwind!
Golf has been extremely popular to wager on over the past two months, just ask online sportsbooks in New Jersey, Pennsylvania or any other state where betting is legal. Even as mainstream sports began returning to play, that shouldn’t change much.
Last week’s 3M Open was hugely popular on betting sites. Considering the variety of markets, lucrative odds, and its ability to provide a rooting interest for several days at one time, the wagering on golf is only going to continue growing in popularity.
Let’s get into what to expect from TPC Southwind and make our 2020 St. Jude Invitational picks!
WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational has been held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee since 1989 (originally called the St. Jude Classic) and this course has become a staple on tour in the decades since.
As is the case with World Golf Championships events, the field is slimmed down (63 players this year) and there is no cut. This year’s event was originally slated for the first week in July but instead will be played from July 30 to August 2nd as the lead up to the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park.
TPC Southwind measures 7,224 yards and is a Par 70 with only two Par 5 holes on the entire course. Here are some stats to consider when making St. Jude Invitational betting picks:

Bet On St. Jude Invitational At BetMGM
The St. Jude Invitational is the last tournament to gear up for the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, so players will be looking to get their games in order, and the field is absolutely stacked. Last year’s champion Brooks Koepka shot -16 to win by three stokes but -5 or better was good for a top-20 finish.
Between Koepka winning in 2019 and Dustin Johnson the year before, the course would seem to favor the long hitters. But the reality is that while some guy can just break the course, the more likely path to success is maintaining accuracy off the tee and hitting irons well.
These fairways are narrow, especially compared to the vast ones we saw at TPC Twin Cities, and approaches will be important along with scrambling following some inevitable missed greens.
Once you’re signed up, consider the following 2020 St. Jude Invitational predictions:
Few golfers are playing as well as Webb Simpson, who ranks No. 5 in the world currently and just won the RBC Heritage a few weeks back. He’s had success at TPC Southwind before, finishing in the top five twice including a second-place finish last year.
Simpson led the field in this event last year in Par 4 Efficiency (450-500 Yards) and was No. 3 in Strokes Gained: Putting, which are key areas this week. After a missed cut at the Memorial and a week off, Simpson will enter well-rested for another big showing and could be a prime target for your St. Jude Invitational picks.
Day is a little off the beaten path when you look at the names who are around this week, but that won’t deter us from taking our shots. He finished 40th here last year but his odds have excellent value going into this event with a stacked field, and it’s possible he started to turn things around with back-to-back top-10 finishes at Muirfield Village.
The putter seems to be back where it used to be as Day ranked fourth in SG: Putting on some of the toughest greens players will see all year at Jack’s Place. He’s also improved his approach way in recent weeks, and he’ll need those irons along with the scrambling touch to stay in contention. Call it a hunch but J-Day is on the upswing.

Another way to win money is by selecting going after finishing position markets rather than outright winners.
The lines are much modest in comparison these bets are more likely to provide a rooting interest across the entire length of the tournament along with a much larger chance of winning once Sunday afternoon arrives.
Think about some of the following golfers if betting on 2020 St. Jude Invitational odds for finishing position:
Finau just collected another top-five finish this week and even though the competition is going to be much tougher than it was at TPC Twin Cities, Finau just saw that at the Memorial and still managed a top-10 finish.
Finau’s inability to close out a tournament may put off some bettors, but he’s playing too well to ignore as he’s crushing it off the tee, approaching with accuracy and even putting pretty well. Sundays are a concern, but the finishing position has been there the past couple of weeks.
Whether he puts it all together remains to be seen but the past two weeks are enough for us to keep Finau in mind for a top-20 finish once again in this field with just 63 players. There will be much more value compared to last week and he may get overlooked with all the stars returning to contention, and he went T-27th here last year.
Schauffele historically performs well in these smaller-field events, having won multiple in the past. Schauffele enters the St. Jude invitational fresh after a top-20 finish at the Memorial despite a brutal putting week, and we hink he cleans things up as we head toward the PGA. In two events at TPC Southwind, his best finish was T-27th in 2019.
There are very few golfers with an off-the-tee and approach game as good as Schauffele’s and he’s going to get the chance to show it off over the next few weeks. If the putting can improve, there’s little from stopping him from a decent finish almost any week. With his tee-to-green game intact, consider him for your St. Jude Invitational predictions.
Schauffele has finished top 20 in four of five events played since the restart. Spoiler alert: unless things go really badly, we are likely taking Xander in the PGA Championship as well.
Fleetwood officially returned to PGA Tour play last week but there was clearly some rust. We think he’s knocked it off in time to return to an event where he finished T-4th last year.
The Englishman led the field tee-to-green last year while shooting a 65 and 66 on the weekend, respectively. He doesn’t have too many events to his name this year but last season, he was one of the very best Par 4 players on holes 450 to 500 yards, which is huge at TPC Southwind.
We think Fleetwood checks the boxes for a top-30 finisher and even with having to risk a bit more due to the odds, consider make him one of your St. Jude Invitational picks
We will continue to add and update selections until players tee off on Thursday, so check back throughout the week once all of the 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational betting odds are posted!
