2020 TOUR Championship Picks – FedEx Cup Predictions

The FedEx Cup Playoffs are coming to a close in Atlanta, and we’re giving away some TOUR Championship predictions to get you ready for the season finale.

The final event of the season will take place from September 4th to September 7th at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, as it does every year. If the betting public turns out at all like it has the first two weeks of the playoffs, online sports betting sites in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and other states where wagering is legal are going to be pretty busy.

There are plenty of markets available and options to choose from, and we’ll get into some of those as we preview our TOUR Championship betting picks.

2020 TOUR Championship Betting Tips – Golf Betting Strategy

The FedEx Cup Playof schedule commenced two weeks ago at The Northern Trust with the top 125 players in the standings. That field was cut to 70 in time for the BMW Championship, and now we have the top 30 in the standings going at it in the season finale.

East Lake measures just under 7,400 yards and registers as a Par 70 for the TOUR Championship. It’s not an overly difficult course but one where accuracy matters, as does putting. Here are some East Lake key stats to consider when making 2020 TOUR Championship Picks:

  • Strokes Gained: Tee-To-Green
  • SG: Approach The Green
  • Birdie Or Better Percentage
  • Ball Striking
  • Scrambling
  • SG: Putting

TOUR Championship 2020 Predictions – Golf Betting Picks

TOUR Champ OddsMake TOUR Championship Picks At BetMGM

Unlike most tournaments, this one will start on Friday and conclude on Monday, which is Labor Day. It’s also a rarity that an event is played at the same venue every year, but East lake has hosted the TOUR championship since 2004.

This means most players are very familiar with the course, and perhaps we can put more stock in past results. Another thing to take int consideration this week is the fact that players aren’t starting with the same score due to the staggered start.

Basically, those at the top of the point standing will have an advantage over those below them, so players could be at the top or bottom of the leaderboard from the very beginning. The leader will begin at -10, second place at -8, third place at -6, all the way down to even par for those ranking from 26th through 30th.

Of course, this has a huge impact on the odds, which is why the FedEx Cup standings are worth paying attention to. Actually, there are two sets of odds this week: one for the tournament itself and one for the FedEx Cup, which includes the staggered scoring.

Once you’re ready to bet, consider the following 2020 TOUR Championship predictions:

  • Dustin Johnson To Win (+188 with staggered stroke format, +550 to win event)

After breaking TPC Boston by shooting -30 to win The Northern Trust by 11 strokes, Johnson was in a position to win the second playoff event as well. He ended up losing in a playoff, which still ensured his position at the top of the FedEx Cup point standings.

The only reason Johnson didn’t win two in a row was because of truly incredible shot-making by Jon Rahm, including that amazing 66-foot putt on the playoff hole. Not to be lost in that is Johnson’s 43-footer to force the playoff to begin with, which is just indicative of his recent form.

The No. 1 ranked player in the world will start two strokes ahead of the field at East Lake, where he’s notched five top-10 finishes before the staggered scoring was introduced last year. After two straight weeks of putting on a show during the postseason, there’s no reason to think Johnson stops now as the season comes to a close. Confidently take DJ as one of your TOUR Championship predictions, especially since he’s not even the favorite at BetMGM.

  • Jon Rahm To Win (+250 with staggered stroke format, +500 to win event)

Rahm posted a truly unbelievable weekend at Olympic Springs and capped it off with a dramatic 66-foot putt to steal a BMW Championship title and propel himself near the top of the FedEx Cup standings in time for the TOUR Championship. After shooting rounds of 66 and 64 on a course where players were happy to shoot 70, Rahm may have overtaken Dustin Johnson as the hottest player in the field at East Lake.

The Spaniard’s odds aren’t great account of starting so close to the top of the leaderboard, but Rahm has performed well at East Lake in the past and he’s on fire with basically every club in the bag. After leading the field in strokes gained at the BMW event and winning despite taking a one-stroke penalty on Saturday, feel confident backing Rahm as one of your TOUR Championship picks.

  • Rory McIlroy To Win (+2500 with staggered stroke format, +1000 to win event)

By his standards, McIlroy has been extremely quiet since the restart, having failed to post a top-10 finish. Whether he feeds off the fans or just isn’t playing very well is anyone’s guess but he sits at No. 12 in the standings heading into East Lake, which will put him about seven shots back of the leader.

McIlroy is definitely among the golfers that can overcome a gap like that, and his odds are extremely valuable compared to where we thought they might be on Friday. If you’re looking for an elite player with a strong payout, this could be the guy.

One of the best tee-to-green and approach players in the game, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see McIlroy find a way to steal this his third FedExCup title (2016, 2019) with a huge late-season run at a place where he’s had so much success. Be advised that McIlroy is waiting to get the call that his wife is going to give birth, so if it doesn’t happen before the event, he may not be the best play.

TOUR Championship 2020 Picks – Finishing Position Golf Betting

TOUR Top 20 OddsMake TOUR Championship Picks At DK!

If you’ve ever read a golf article on BonusSeeker, you know how we feel about finishing positions. Betting on these markets is a way to ensure rooting interest throughout the whole tournament (unlike outrights) while giving yourself a much better chance of ending the weekend as a winner.

Again, it’s important to keep in mind the staggered start and the current standings, since that will dictate the odds and help inform your decision. Think about some of the following golfers if betting on 2020 TOUR Championship odds for finishing position. Remember there are two sets of odds this week but since players are competing against the FedEx Cup staggered stroke format, our picks are for the overall FedEx Cup standings.

  • Justin Thomas Top 5 (-137 with staggered stroke format)

Justin Thomas is slated for the No. 3 position at East Lake because of his potion in the FedEx Cup standings, and we like him to remain right there and finish in the top five for the season.

The 2017 FedEx Cup champion has owned East Lake before, having been in the top seven at the end of four straight season finales. He also ranks first on tour in both tee-to-green and Strokes Gained: Approach, so keep Thomas in mind for your 2020 TOUR Championship picks.

  • Tony Finau Top 10 (+138 with staggered stroke format)

Finau is in 20th place so he is going to be several strokes behind the leader and even behind the top 10, but he won’t be too far not to consider for a top-10 finish. In fact, there should be some value in these odds because of his starting position, and there’s plenty of reason to trust Finau.

Sure, Tony hasn’t gotten over the hump and secured that big win, but it’s been an awesome season nonetheless. We’re talking about nine top-25s and seven top-10 finishes, plus some truly awesome strokes gained numbers in key areas. Finau is +100 to finish top 10 in the event by itself, and we don’t mind that number knowing he’s pushing for a top 10 overall standing.

FedEx Cup Playoff Picks: 2020 TOUR Championship Best Bets

All below 2020 TOUR Championship betting odds include the staggered stroke format:

  • Dustin Johnson To Win FedEx Cup (+188)
  • Jon Rahm To Win FedEx Cup (+250)
  • Rory McIlroy To Win (+2500)
  • Justin Thomas Top 5 (-137)
  • Xander Schauffele Top 10 (-150)
  • Tony Finau Top 10 (+135)

We will continue to add and update selections until players tee off on Friday, so check back throughout the week once all of the 2020 TOUR Championship betting odds are posted!
