We are just a couple of weeks away from The Masters and as the PGA Tour continues its push toward Augusta National, we are making some 2021 Valero Texas Open betting predictions!
This was sadly one of many events that was canceled in 2020, which adds an extra layer of excitement as this highly-anticipated stop on the tour makes its return. Betting on golf is also extremely popular this time of year, so there will be plenty of fanfare at online sportsbooks in New Jersey and the many other states where betting is legal.
Bettors will find there are a wide variety of markets to choose from for each PGA Tour event and we’re going to use several of them to make Texas Open picks.
The Valero Texas Open has been played on the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio since 2010 and was originally designed by Pete Dye and Greg Norman.
The track is a lengthy one, measuring over 7,400 yards and playing as a Par 72. The Oaks Course features narrow, tree-lined fairways that put a premium on accuracy and while the greens are a decent size, they can be challenging to hit due to their design and the constant presence of wind. Keep the following statistics in mind when deciding on 2021 Valero Texas Open picks:

As always, approach will be vital and anyone who can hit greens in regulation will be set up for success. But since the putting surface will be tough to find, players who can scramble and avoid making bogeys can also stay in contention. Another stat we didn’t include but could be useful is birdie or better percentage with four Par-5 holes on the course.
It’s hard not to look in Finau’s direction with a game this versatile, and he’s going to finish the job one of these weeks. Finau is a tee-to-green monster with a great approach game and has made drastic putting improvements. After being sent home early from TPC Sawgrass and the match play event, it’s about time we see Finau near the top of the leaderboard again.
He’s made the cut in all three appearances here and finished T-3rd in 2017. We think he’s also good for a top 10 or 20 wager, as he placed 14th or better in five straight events leading up to The Players. Four of those were top fives.
There probably isn’t anyone in the field more familiar with TPC San Antonio than Ancer, who was born McAllen and has been a San Antonio resident for years. He’s said in the past that when he’s home, he plays this course more than any other. So while he hasn’t placed better than T-42nd in two tries, we can be sure he’s comfortable here.
Ancer has got a very solid tee-to-green game and reaches the putting surface in regulation as well as anybody. He’s also in pretty good form over the past six weeks and is due for his first PGA Tour win. He’s fresh off a strong showing at The Players and a great week at the match play event.
Picking the outright winner of a golf tournament is exciting but the truth is, it’s not so easy to pick a player that will be contending on Sunday. Finishing position wagers have more modest lines but provide some margin for error.
There are also choices, as you can choose to go after more lucrative lines or stick to safer ones that you believe have a higher chance of winning. These bets can also provide a rooting interest that lasts for the entire tournament.
So, Hoffman loves this place and has played in this event every single year it’s been at TPC San Antonio. He’s made all 10 cuts with eight top-20s, four top-10s including a runner-up finish in 2019, and a victory here in 2016.
Hoffman is stellar with his irons, he’s strong tee-to-green overall, and the putting is good enough. He’s going to make the cut, and he’s going to have a chance at another top 20 finish.
We will continue to update this page as Texas Open odds are released, so keep checking back for more picks ahead of Thursday’s first round!
