The PGA Tour experiences a change of pace this week with a team event rather than singles competition, and we’re getting bettors ready by making some 2021 Zurich Classic predictions!
Golf is an individual sport but it’s always exciting to shake things up, and that’s what is great about a tournament that pairs professionals up into teams. After last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic, the 2021 Zurich Classic of New Orleans will take place from April 22 through 25 at TPC Louisiana
This kind of event creates an entirely new and different wagering experience than bettors usually come across when putting money on the PGA Tour. Even though we are between majors on the schedule, you can be sure that online sportsbooks in New Jersey and many other states will be taking tons of action this week,
This event dates back to 1938 but it wasn’t until 2017 that it became a team event with 80 groups of two and a format unique to what we normally see in singles stroke play.
The third rounds are four-ball, which involves each golfer playing their own ball and using the best of the two player’s scores as the team score. If one player gets a par and one gets a birdie, the hole will be scored a birdie.
The second and fourth rounds are foursomes, also known as alternate shot. In this format, one player hits the tee shot and his teammate hits the second shot. And things continue to alternate until the ball is in the hole.
TPC Louisiana has remained the host every year since 2007, measuring over 7,400 yards and playing to a par of 72. Keep some of the following in mind if looking for some TPC Louisiana key stats:

Bet On 2021 Zurich Classic At DK!
It’s worth noting that the Zurich Classic is one of the most difficult tournaments to handicap for a bettor due to its format. Golfers with a wide variety of styles have been part of the winning team before, so it’s not really about picking out a specific type of player.
With that said, we can still use the statistical profile above to pick a team that we feel compliments one another and can have a chance at winning the whole thing. We are looking for strong approach play, greens in regulation, and teams that can make birdies…lots and lots of birdies.
Consider the following in one form or another for your 2021 Zurich Classic betting predictions using odds from DraftKings Sportsbook:
Team Aussie is back together for another team event, as these two also played together at the QBE Shootout and landed a top-10 finish. Both players are in good form and it could be the recipe for a team win at TPC Louisiana.
Smith has played well for most of the season highlighted by two excellent Masters performances in which he finished T-2nd in November and T-10th two weeks ago. Leishman finished T-13th in this season’s first trip to Augusta and followed that up with a T-5th in April.
With Leishman’s irons and Smith’s short game, they’re another group that could compliment one another well. Plus, we know they get along and we think chemistry can help breed success.
Champ and Finau played together in the QBE Classic a few months ago, finishing T-5th. That at least says that they can compete in this type of event, which several teams in this field have shown. Something has to be said for team chemistry, right?
These two guys are bombers off the tee and are a threat to birdie almost any hole. Finau’s statistical profile travels all over. He’s a tee-to-green monster with great irons and strong around-the-green play. Champ is one of the best off-the-tee players around and his form at Augusta was the best we’ve seen in months.
These two are easy players to root for and fun players to watch. Plus, it helps that they’ve had a little success as a team before.
When I look up and down the list of teams in this year’s Zurich Classic I keep coming back to Team Norway with Hovland and Ventura. They are flying under the radar and there could be some value in these odds.
Hovland is a star with an elite tee-to-green game. He makes birdies and is a strong approach player. His biggest issue is around the greens, which is where Ventura shines as one of the great putters on tour. In an alternate-shot format, the two could compliment one another very well.
We will continue to add and update selections until players tee off on Thursday, so check back throughout the week once all of the 2021 Zurich Classic odds are posted!
