The PGA Tour season is in full swing but since many casual fans and bettors associate the arrival of golf season with the first major of the year, we are looking ahead and making early 2020 Masters predictions.

The Masters is arguably the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, taking place at the famed Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia every April. The upcoming championship will be the 84th edition of the event, which always features a star-studded field of players looking to fulfill a lifelong dream of having the Green Jacket put on them by the previous year’s winner.

The tournament is a few weeks out and there are several events left to play before anyone arrives in Augusta, but anticipation is already beginning to build for what amounts to be one of the biggest betting weekends of the year for online gambling sites. Most legal operators, including all the best NJ betting sites, offer Masters futures odds at all times, so we aren’t too early to look for betting value and make some picks.

2020 Masters Betting Odds: McIlroy, Koepka, And Woods Among Favorites

Once we look at 2020 Masters betting odds from William Hill, the names at the top should come as no surprise. Many of these players are the usual suspects we’ve been seeing as favorites in most big tournaments recently, and it’s likely to remain that way heading into all of this year’s big events.

After all, the top six players in terms of betting odds at the Masters are also the six biggest favorites at the PGA Championship and the US Open, and they are six of the top eight names on the board for the British Open. Rory McIlroy is the favorite in three of this year’s four majors including The Masters and is a close second to Brooks Koepka in the other (US Open), while Koepka’s odds are second behind McIlroy for every major aside from the US Open.

As for 2019 Masters winner Tiger Woods, he is tied for third among betting favorites after winning his fifth Green Jacket last year and has odds among the top five for each 2020 major event.

Now, let’s get back to focusing on this year’s event. The above lines are some of the most generous available so if you’re looking for the biggest payout possible on many of your Masters betting picks, consider signing up with a William Hill NJ promo code and earn a first deposit bonus up to $150 in the process.

2020 Masters Betting Picks: Who Can Break Through At Augusta In April?

With just about a month remaining until competition at Augusta National, but there is definitely value to be found in making Masters predictions a few weeks early. It’s extremely unlikely that the winner of The Masters will come from outside of the first 20 names listed at your sportsbook, so we are focusing on players who rank among the world’s best and have odds listed near the top of the board.

  • Rory McIlroy (+800)

It should come as no surprise that the top-ranked golfer in the world is favored once you consider McIlroy’s performance in 2019. The Northern Ireland native won three times including at the PLAYERS Championship and earned eight top-five finishes and 14 top 10 results with two majors among those. This year, McIlroy has followed it up with five top-10 finishes and one win in eight events.

McIlroy is a four-time major winner but everyone in the golf world knows he needs a Green Jacket to complete the career grand slam. Between 2015 and 2018, McIlroy earned four straight top 10s at Augusta and is among the best players on tour in some crucial areas like approaching the green and Par 5 scoring. It truly does feel like a matter of time until it happens and considering he’s the favorite by a long way, oddsmakers figure he’s got a pretty good chance.

It’s not easy for a betting favorite to wind up winning the tournament and frankly, it doesn’t happen very often. But McIlroy’s odds are +650 and +700 at some other NJ and PA betting sites, which tell us +800 could be a bit of a bargain.

  • Jon Rahm (+1100)

Rahm is another option who represents the total package and comes with a slightly larger payout than McIlroy. Rahm is currently No. 2 according to Official World Golf Ranking (OWGF) and he’s had success at Augusta in the recent past.

The Spaniard will enter this year’s tournament with finishes of 4th place and T-9th in his last two appearances at The Masters and posted a 68 (-4) on Sunday last year. After participating three times now, Rahm’s comfort and confidence playing at Augusta should be higher than ever. He slays Par 5s with prowess off the tee and is one of the best there is with the putter.

  • Patrick Cantlay (+2500)

Cantlay is an excellent player off the tee and on approach so assuming he recovers from a recent procedure to correct a deviated septum and gets to play a bit before Augusta, we are taking a hard look at Cantlay for our 2020 Masters picks.

Cantlay ranks No. 6 in the world and finally broke through with a strong performance at Augusta last year in a T-9th finish. The most impressive part was probably the performance he put on over the weekend, shooting an incredible 8-under par (64) on Saturday and following it up with a 4-under 68 on Sunday.

  • Adam Scott (+2500)

Adam Scott knows Augusta like the back of his hand. He’s played in this tournament every year since 2002, finishing T-2nd in 2011 and T-8th in 2012 before finally winning a Green Jacket in 2013. Most recently, Scott posted another top-10 finish in 2017. As long as he’s somewhat in form, Scott should be considered among your Masters predictions.

The early part of the season has seen mixed results, with the Australian failing to secure any top-10 finishes aside from winning the Genesis Invitational. He’s been tee-to-green and around the greens, but positive results in the final month leading up would make the former champion an even more dangerous pick this year.

  • Tony Finau (+3300)

Finau has only played The Masters twice but has already made himself very comfortable at Augusta National with a pair of strong weekend performances. He famously dislocated his ankle at the Par 3 Contest the day before his debut in the tournament in 2018, but still managed to tie for 10th place.

Finau followed it up with a T-5th finish in 2019 and could be knocking on the door at the very top of the leaderboard one of these years. At +3300, he is worth a look for 2020 Masters picks in more ways than one. Finau’s odds are high enough that he may still garner a decent payout for a Top 10 of Top 20 finishing position once those odds are available.

  • Webb Simpson (+4000)

Simpson has enjoyed recent Masters success and is putting together a very impressive 2020 season as the No. 8-ranked golfer in the world. He’s been phenomenal approaching and around the green as well as putting, which resulted in five straight top 10 results to begin the season including his win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Simpson mostly dealt with disappointments since his 2012 Masters debut until tying for 20th in 2018. Things got even better when Simpson finished T-5th in 2019 with his best Augusta performance by far.

This is another player to not only consider for your outright winner Masters predictions because of his odds, but also look at those finishing positions for top 10, 20, and even 30 to include Simpson in your bets.

Masters Betting Tips – Things To Know For Making 2020 Masters Picks

Predicting the winner of golf tournaments on the PGA Tour isn’t an easy thing to do, and there is no set Masters betting strategy to guarantee you pick the champion golfer. With that said, there are some things to take into consideration when determining which players you want to target with your hard-earned money. Keep the following tips in mind for making 2020 Masters betting predictions:

  • The Course Matters

It really is all about Augusta National. The course always matters in golf betting, and it matters at The masters perhaps more than at any other tournament. Stick with players who have performed well here in the past and fit the statistical profile when it comes to ky categories like Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Putting, and Par 5 Scoring among other things.

  • Lean Toward Experience And Top Players

There are outliers who haven’t played The Masters generally don’t win the whole thing the first time around. In the same vein, lean toward golfers who are among the highest-ranked at the time of the tournament as well. No player outside the top 40 in the world at the time of this event has won it, even longshots like Danny Willett and Patrick Reed in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

  • Multiple Outright Winners

If going with outright winners for your Masters betting picks, select multiple golfers. It’s easy for a golfer to get lost in the shuffle with such a star-studded field, so having more than one option to root for throughout the weekend is always betting. Because Masters odds pay so well, you won’t mind putting a small stake on a couple (or a few) different players.

  • Bet On Finishing Positions & Head-To-Head

These odds aren’t made available until the tournament gets closer but once it does, consider some of your favorite golfers for finishing positions wagers. The lines are much more modest but this is a decent way to create a rooting interest that can last the entire tournament. This opens up many more betting options and allows you to include golfers you believe can perform well but may not win the entire tournament.

For head-to-head wagers, we’d recommend targeting players without previous success or much history at Augusta. Especially if they grouped with players with more experience and better results, think about fading those golfers head-to-head.
