We are still a few weeks away from the best players in the world teeing it up at Augusta National, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to make some 2020 Masters predictions.
This year has been unlike any other and the re-shuffled PGA Tour schedule is evidence of that, as we are currently in a season with six majors instead of the customary four. That means online betting sites in New Jersey, PA, and other states where wagering is legal are going to be busy, as the public loves to wager on the biggest PGA Tour events of each year.
The Masters Tournament, a paradigm of tradition in golf, has been played 83 times and has taken place in March or April on every occasion. That is, until this year. The 2020 version of the event will take place from November 12 to 15 at the famed Augusta National Golf Club in the northeast corner of Georgia.
Even though this year’s tournament will be unique, some things remain the same. Regardless of which month the tournament is played in, the betting public has a massive interest in making 2020 Masters predictions for the biggest golf event on the schedule.
As mentioned above, this is a springtime event that normally features beautiful trees in bloom and colorful azaleas. But even though we won’t get that this year, the course won’t without its natural beauty.
For golfers, Augusta National is as close to heaven as one can get. It was founded and designed by the legendary Bobby Jones and features some of the most famous scenery in golf such as Ike’s Pond, Rae’s Creek, and Amen Corner.
It is normally a bit brown and dried out following the summer months but based on some of the photos that have come out, the place will be as majestic as ever, even if the event is being played six months later on the calendar.

The fall scenery will dominate much of the conversation at Augusta, but it’s the playing conditions that bettors are far more interested in. Since after all, that could impact how the leaderboard looks on Sunday.
We won’t get all that deep into the stats now, but we will discuss what to expect at this world-famous track. Augusta is a long track and one that is always getting longer to keep up with the distances that tour players can hit the ball. It currently measures at 7,465 yards, making it one of the longest courses on tour.
Augusta’s length isn’t the only advantage for big hitters, either. Devilish rough can be the great equalizer, but there is some forgiveness for missed fairways so accuracy really is not everything even though we all love hitting it from the short grass. In other words: bombs away
The most important stat, however, will be Strokes Gained: Approach. The undulating bentgrass greens are notoriously speedy and can a huge challenge. Shorter putts are very makeable but some of the greens make a long two-putt incredibly tricky.
For that reason, approach, greens in regulation, and proximity to the hole will be important on top of overall putting performance.
It should come as no surprise that Bryson DeChambeau (+800) is the favorite for this event after dominating the US Open at Winged Foot. He has become a pioneering force in the distance arms race and his game lines up well for Augusta.
Behind him is Rory McIlroy (+1000), a four-time major champion who currently ranks fifth in the world rankings but is capable of being in the top spot at any moment. Dustin Johnson (+1100) closed the 2020 season on an absolute tear, winning the FedExCup title and currently ranks number one in the world. His odds match those of Jon Rahm (+1100), world No. 2 and strokes gained leader on tour in 2020.
Recent developments before the event may alter some of our selections, but here are some early 2020 Masters betting predictions for the outright winner using BetMGM golf odds:
When he’s right, McIlroy is quite possibly the best golfer on the planet. With The Masters being the only major missing from his long list of golf accomplishments, it feels like only a matter of time until McIlroy seals the deal.
This remains the only major he hasn’t won, but we think it’s only a matter of time until he puts it together for 72 holes at an event where he’s finished in the top 10 in five of the past six years. He’ll also be worth a finishing position wager of some kind.
He’s been vocal about missing the fans, so perhaps an empty Augusta doesn’t seem like the setting where he would get it done. But fans or no fans, the green jacket lives forever, so we can be sure he’ll be dialed in.
Schauffele is sure to be one of the favorites and an extremely popular pick at this year’s Masters for several reasons, including his recent form and his unreal performances in majors.
The 26-year old has finished in the top 20 or better in nine of 13 career majors, including a fifth-place finish at the US Open at Winged Foot and tying for second place at Augusta in 2019. There may be no golfer more due for a major championship and it would surprise very few to see Schauffele earn a green jacket.
Bettors will likely shy away from Tony because of his poor history closing out events but anyone who has been paying attention when he tees it up at Augusta knows he is a major threat. Plus, his course history is outstanding.
In two Masters tournaments (2018 and 2019), Finau has finished in fifth place and in 10th place. In his 2018 Augusta debut, he managed a top-10 finish despite famously dislocating his ankle in the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday.
Finau is a bomber off the tee who also happens to be an excellent approach player, and that’s absolutely part of the recipe for success at Augusta.
If you’re looking for a longshot for your 2020 Masters picks, we’ve got quite an appetizing option with +12500 odds at BetMGM. The Australian could also be a prime candidate for matchups or finishing position wagers when the tournament nears.
You can’t fade form and that’s exactly what Cameron Smith has early in the season, appearing often on leaderboards. He’s also got a decent history at Augusta, making the cut in all three tries and finishing T-5th in 2018.
