Ice Time With Sauce: Free NHL Betting Picks For Feb. 26
*Using BetStars NJ lines as of Feb. 26 at 11am*
***WHAT IS THE PUCK LINE? Puck line betting means rather than NJ sports betting players picking only which side will win the game (moneyline), bettors wager on a 1.5-goal spread. The favorite is -1.5 with generous odds for covering the spread and underdogs are +1.5 with lesser odds because you’ve just been handed a free goal to work with.
PUCK LINE EXAMPLE: Let’s say the San Jose Sharks are -150 favorites on the moneyline (ML), but +140 on the puck line (PL). This means one would have to wager $150 to win $100 on the Sharks securing a win by any amount. On the puck line, since San Jose must win by two or more (-1.5), the payout is higher odds at +140. This means that a $100 wager on a victory by 2+ goal would pay $140. These rules remain true no matter the exact teams or odds. ***
NHL Betting Picks: Top NHL Predictions Today
San Jose Sharks [+1.5 (-275), +100 ML] @ Boston Bruins [-1.5 (+215), -120 ML] - 7pm
The Bruins host the Sharks as slight favorites on BetStars Sportsbook. Boston lost the final game of its road trip, but previously won seven in a row and has been paying dividends for NJ sports betting players lately at 8-0-2 in the last 10. The Bruins are returning home where they are 21-7-3 this season and looking to keep a slim lead over the Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division. The Sharks are an excellent 7-1 in their last eight road games, but have yet to run into a home juggernaut like the Bruins have been. Considering the cheap price, it’s hard to pass up the dominant home team as the first of our NHL picks today.
Pick: Boston Bruins -120 ML
Minnesota Wild [+1.5 (-212), +130 ML] @ Winnipeg Jets [-1.5 (+170), -150 ML] - 8pm
The Jets are one of the league’s premier home teams at 21-7-4, so it’s no surprise BetStars Sportsbook has them as the favorite. Minnesota is coming off a massive road win, but I don’t see it being two big road victories in a row. The home team in this matchup is 8-2 in the last 10, which partially accounts for the Wild being 1-7 over the last eight games in Winnipeg. The Jets are the better team on home ice and just one point out of the division lead, so I’d recommend the Jets on the puck line for the free NHL pick.
Pick: Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+170)
Calgary Flames [+1.5 (-286), -105 ML] @ New York Islanders [-1.5 (+225), -118 ML] - 7pm
The Islanders return from a western road trip as slight favorites over the Flames on BetStars Sportsbook. New York is an awesome team on home ice and now back on Long Island to close the season, but NJ sports betting players need to keep an eye on the road team here. The Flames are 19-11-0 away from home this season and enter this matchup having won five in a row. Two divisional leaders playing late in the season is sure to make for an interesting game, but we are taking Calgary to edge the Islanders for a second time in a week for our second free NHL pick.
Pick: Calgary Flames -105 ML
NHL Betting Pick: Underdog Play of the Day
Pittsburgh Penguins [+1.5 (-200), +130 ML] @ Columbus Blue Jackets [-1.5 (+170), -150 ML] - 7pm
The Penguins are pretty heavy underdogs against the newly-improved Blue Jackets, according to BetStars NJ. Columbus went for it at the trade deadline and are a popular pick for a deep playoff run, but they’re just one point in front of a Pittsburgh team that nobody is talking about. The Penguins are wholly inconsistent, but this is a spot where Columbus has some new combinations to figure out after the trades and that generally doesn’t go smooth in game No. 1. The Blue Jackets have sputtered at home going 2-5 in the last seven and I think Pittsburgh is a little embarrassed after an awful OT loss in the Stadium Series. The +130 value is a lot to pass up with a talented team like the Pens still are.
Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins +130
Best of luck!
