The busy time for sports betting in New Jersey is officially here with the start of the 2019 NCAA football season and we are here to help you make some Week 1 predictions.
The No. 3-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are universally regarded as a contender for the College Football Playoff and open their season on the road against a Southeastern Conference (SEC) rival in Vanderbilt. For what it’s worse, plenty of Georgia fans will be making the trip of fewer than 250 miles from Athens to Nashville, Tennessee, so it will not feel much like a true road game. After narrowly missing the top four a season ago, the Bulldogs are starting a journey they hope ends with an appearance in the national semifinals.
Below are the odds to know before making your Georgia-Vanderbilt betting pick, according to lines from DraftKings, which remains among the best NJ sportsbooks gooing into yet another football season.
Bet on Georgia vs. Vanderbilt At DraftKings Sportsbook
Despite playing a conference game on the road to kick off the schedule, the Bulldogs are still huge betting favorites against Vanderbilt. Georgia is -21 at DraftKings NJ with a total set at 57.5 points.
With a fearsome defense and one of the top quarterback/running back duos in the nation, Georgia is traveling to Nashville as three-touchdown favorites for a reason. QB Jake Fromm and RB D’Andre Swift return to lead an offense that scored 28 points in three quarters on Alabama in the SEC title game. With one of the top offensive lines protecting Fromm, the Georgia offense should have little trouble against Vandy.
On the other side of the ball, Georgia’s talent level on defense rivals any other team in the country, including Alabama. Vanderbilt’s offense will take some time to click, so any rust on the Bulldogs’ end can be made up for on talent alone and may not cost them in Week 1.
Vanderbilt’s offense has playmakers like running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn and receiver Kalija Lipscomb, but getting these guys the ball may prove tough. Not only is Georgia’s defense rated one of the best, but the Commodores have little experience under center to cope. After losing its quarterback from a season ago, Vandy coach Derek Mason will employ some kind of platoon system against Georgia as a new offensive coordinator makes his debut.
Both quarterbacks will get a chance to play, and which on sticks will be anyone’s guess. This move forces Georgia to prepare for two players rather than one, which may be part of Mason’s plan to stay quiet about his official starter.
Georgia was perhaps the best team to be left out of the 2018 College Football Playoff after losing the SEC championship to Alabama. It knows that winning the SEC East and losing in that spot again may not be good enough to reach the final four, so Georgia needs to impress throughout the season. With two easy games to follow, the Bulldogs’ full focus is on making a good first impression against Vanderbilt. A statement win against an SEC opponent will do wonders to set the team on the right course for the rest of the year.
Fromm is now an upperclassman and is going into the season with protection that most NCAA quarterbacks don’t get to enjoy. After putting up 41 points on Vandy a season ago, we don’t see why this offense couldn’t do it again. The Georgia defense will bring pressure to an inexperienced QB on the other end and force some turnovers, leading to more UGA scores.
Bet On Georgia vs. Vanderbilt at SugarHouse PA
Using NCAA football betting lines from SugarHouse Sportsbook PA, we have a total set at 57.5 points. While we expect Georgia to put up their share (maybe into the 40s), it’s hard to tell whether Vanderbilt will be able to make much of a dent in this defense with a new QB situation and a new coordinator. It allowed under 20 points per game last season, including just 13 to Vanderbilt, and we don’t expect many more on Saturday night.
