Sportradar and Genius Sports will send official NBA data to US sports betting operators. This past Wednesday, the NBA struck a deal with the two data partners in order to offer real-time live betting data to US sportsbooks, making them the first major sports league in the US to do so. Their partnerships with Genius Sports and Sportradar ensures that licensed US sportsbooks receive real-time, official NBA betting data to make it easy for people to bet on basketball in the US.
Sportradar also has a deal with MGM GVC Interactive LLC, which is a partnership between MGM Resorts International and the British group GVC Holdings. The agreement between Sportradar and MGM GVC covers live-betting services, pre-match services and other data services, which will surely impact MGM sportsbooks, including their involvement with NJ sports betting and soon-to-be PA sportsbooks.
Both Genius Sports and Sportradar have worked with the NBA to provide basketball betting data to sportsbooks outside of the US, but now that the US is allowing legal betting to be controlled by the states, it opens up legal NBA betting in the US. These two sports betting data companies will allocate NBA and WNBA betting data from the preseason through the playoffs to states that allow legal sports betting.
After the US Supreme Court gave states the right to allow legalized sports gambling by striking down PAPSA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) in May of this year, major sports leagues have positioned themselves to reap the benefits of increased sports betting in the US, and the NBA is no different. With previous partnerships for real-time data to be distributed, it was an easy choice for the NBA to extend that to the US sports betting market with Genius Sports and Sportradar. And with the sports betting market moving more toward live betting, having NBA betting data delivered quickly and accurately is a must for those who want to bet on the NBA.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver mentioned, "Sportradar and Genius Sports are proven leaders in data distribution and will deliver unparalleled, real-time official NBA betting data." Sportradar CEO Carsten Koerl added, "With sports betting being so new to the US, we will look to utilize our vast global experience in the space to implement innovative feeds and products to give fans and partners and amazing experience." Genius Sports CEO Mark Locke included, "We look forward to using NBA data to provide licensed US sportsbooks with our suite of market-leading in-game basketball betting products and services." Both the NBA and its data partners sound committed to shoring up the data to make betting on basketball in the US efficient as the US sports betting market expands to more states.
