The NCAA Tournament continues to heat up as there are just four games left in the Sweet 16 to decide the second half of the Elite Eight. Heading into the second weekend of March Madness, all No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 seeds remain, packing the Sweet 16 schedule with premier matchups. On Friday night, the No. 1 overall seed Duke takes on ACC rival Virginia Tech while another ACC power in North Carolina battles SEC Tournament champion Auburn. NCAA Picks: Top College Basketball Plays of the Day
No. 3 LSU Tigers vs. No. 2 Michigan State Spartans (-6) - 7:14pm
Michigan State goes into the sweet 16 as six-point favorites on PointsBet Sportsbook. The Spartans have had an easier time of it so far in the NCAA Tournament and are the widely popular pick to advance. For LSU, not having their head coach in the NCAA Tournament is something that will likely come back to haunt them at some point, and it’s probably going to be this weekend. Whether or not it’s Friday night may depend on whether the Tigers can get out in transition and score before the Spartans’ defense locks them down in a half-court game. Despite the expectation that Michigan State moves on to the Elite Eight, we think LSU battles the whole way. LSU and the points in this East Region Sweet 16 pick.
Pick: LSU Tigers +6 (-105)
No. 5 Auburn Tigers vs. No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels (-5) - 7:34pm
North Carolina is five-point favorites over Auburn in the Midwest Region semifinal on the PointsBet Sportsbook app. These teams are both potent offensive groups that want to push the pace and score points. The issue is, North Carolina does everything the Tigers do, only better. NJ online sports betting players shouldn’t be afraid to go chalk when getting deeper into the NCAA Tournament. If Auburn gets hot shooting the three-pointer anything can happen, but the Tar Heels’ experience needs to account for something. This is a game we expect to remain pretty close, but a late UNC run past a mediocre Auburn defense covers the spread for this Sweet 16 prediction.
Pick: North Carolina -5 (-105)
No. 4 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. No. 1 Duke Blue Devils (-7) - 9:44pm
The No. 1 overall seed Duke Blue Devils may have only escaped by a single point in the second round, but that doesn’t mean NJ online sports betting players need to shy away from jumping on board in the Sweet 16. If anything, Duke may have needed a close call to keep itself grounded. Virginia Tech should be confident knowing they defeated Duke earlier this season despite them not having phenom Zion Williamson, but history will not repeat itself here. So long as Duke has all its weapons, it’s going to the Elite Eight, and ultimately by double digits for our other Sweet 16 pick in the East Region.
Pick: Duke Blue Devils -7 (-105)

No. 3 Houston Cougars (+1.5) vs. No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats (-3.5) - 10:02pm
Using PointsBetting odds, which modifies the current 2.5-point spread slightly, Kentucky favored by 3.5 points while Houston is a slight underdog at +1.5. The Wildcats should get star player PJ Washington back as they battle a Houston team that was top-10 in the country for much of the season. When looking at this game, I think back further than just the NCAA Tournament. When Houston’s physicality and offensive talent level is matched, as it was in the AAC Tournament final vs. Cincinnati, they can be kept up with. Kentucky will attempt to rebound and get out in transition to keep up, and we like them to advance beyond the Sweet 16. With any luck, the Wildcats will stretch out a lead and maximize PointsBetting earnings for online sports betting players.
PointsBetting Pick: Kentucky Wildcats -3.5
