Three Jars of Sauce: Picks Against The Spread (ATS) For Week 14

*Carolina Panthers -2 @ Cleveland Browns (1pm)

Despite being losers of four straight games, the Panthers are still in the thick of the NFC Wild Card picture. It could be too little too late for Carolina, but the Browns crashed back to earth a bit vs. Houston last week as well. I’m taking the Panthers to right the ship in time for the Saints to come to town next week.

Pick: Carolina Panthers (-2)

*Houston Texans -4.5 vs. Indianapolis Colts (1pm)

Houston has won 9 games in a row since starting 0-3, beating the Colts in Week 4 to begin the epic streak. After Indianapolis managed zero points against a reeling Jaguars defense that got dominated by Tennessee on Thursday, there’s no reason to think Houston won’t make it 10 straight with a balanced attack. Texans by a touchdown at home.

Pick: Houston Texans (-4.5)

*LA Rams -3 @ Chicago Bears (8:20 pm)

Los Angeles’ prolific offense led by Jared Goff vs. Chicago’s high-quality defense starring Khalil Mack is truly a must-see strength vs. strength matchup. Mitch Trubisky returns for the Bears but has to reckon with Aaron Donald and a suffocating Rams defense after not playing for three weeks. Sean McVay’s Rams have passed every test but one so far, and they move to 12-1 here.

Pick: LA Rams (-3)

Underdog That Barks in Week 14

*Dallas Cowboys -3 vs. Philadelphia Eagles (4:25 pm)

The Cowboys’ dramatic takeover of the division featured a 27-20 win in Philadelphia. However, I’m going against logic in favor of the chaos that normally reigns in the NFC East this time of year. Philly keeps it close in Dallas if they don’t win outright and tie up the division race yet again.

Pick: Philadelphia Eagles (+3.5)

Over/Under Pick of the Week

*New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1pm): Over/Under 55

Despite being the highest total on the board, we are going OVER with the Saints and Tampa Bay. The Bucs won 48-40 at New Orleans in Week 1 and while we may not get that kind of output, a shootout is in store. The Saints breaking out for 40 again isn’t out of the realm of possibility, especially after being shut down by Dallas at home last week.

Pick: Over

Exotic Bet Of The Week: 3-Team Teaser

*A teaser allows you to alter the original spread by a certain number of points. When using three teams, the player is gifted 10 points in each game to add onto whichever end of the spread they choose.

EXAMPLE: The Steelers are 10-point favorites this week (-10), which makes the Raiders 10-point underdogs (+10). By using this game in a 3-team teaser, we have 10 points to use against the spread either way we choose. Either the Raiders can have 10 points added to make them +20, or the Steelers’ spread can be lowered by 10 points, leaving them at pick ‘em (spread of 0) to cover.*

Week 14 3-Team Teaser

  • Broncos +6 (originally -4)
  • Steelers pick ‘em (originally -10)
  • Saints +1 (originally -9)

Steelers need to keep pace in the AFC and take care of business in Oakland just needing to win. The Broncos should take care of San Fran, but six is a good amount of points to grab in case something goes wrong. Cannot see any way in the world this Saints team loses to Tampa Bay twice, even going on the road in Week 14. Take the nine points away and New Orleans just to win should be an easy one.
