To put it simply, the NHL playoffs are chaos. The fact of the matter is that making NJ online sports betting predictions on NHL playoff games isn’t an easy thing to do. Teams that are supposed to win are unceremoniously eliminated while experts and trends tend to be a bit further off than normal. Making NHL betting picks isn’t for the faint of heart, but it can still be profitable, and we are here to help.

AROUND THE LEAGUE: The Carolina Hurricanes completed their first sweep in franchise history in a 5-2 win over the Islanders.  They were favorites on SugarHouse Sportsbook and came through in a big way for NJ online sports betting players. Carolina advances to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup  in 2006 and will be waiting a few more days for either Boston or Columbus.

With a massive road win in Game 5, the Stars have  taken a 3-2 lead over St. Louis heading back to Dallas for Game 6. The Stars scored early and Ben Bishop shut the door on the Blues, redeeming himself for some poor performances earlier in the series.

Columbus Blue Jackets (+115 ML) @ Boston Bruins (-139 ML) - 7:15pm

The series heads back to Boston tied at two apiece for a critical Game 5 with the Bruins a favorite on the SugarHouse Sportsbook app.

Each team won a game in each other’s building, so it has become a three-game series with Boston regaining the home-ice advantage. Value is definitely with Columbus, a strong road team this postseason. After all, Boston gave away home ice in the Toronto series on two different occasions before finally using it to their advantage in Game 7. NJ sports betting players should view this series as a repeat of sorts, the difference being the Bruins will defend home ice in Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead.

Despite the Bruins not getting the offensive output they expected so far this series, Tuukka Rask has stepped up in a big way in net and is the reason they aren’t behind in the series. Boston is coming off a dominating win in Game 4 and should pick up the physicality even more in Game 5. Bruins are the first of our NHL playoff picks today.

Pick: Boston Bruins -139 moneyline

Colorado Avalanche (+112 ML) @ San Jose Sharks (-136 ML) - 10:00pm

The Sharks return home as a favorite on SugarHouse Sportsbook in a tie-breaking Game 5  against the Avalanche. These teams have alternated wins to this point and is now a three-game series with San Jose having home-ice, but can they bounce back after a 3-0 shutout loss in Game 4?

The Sharks want to generate more offense after their poor showing, and should look to get up and down the ice while making things tougher on Philipp Grubauer in goal. That would seem to favor Colorado’s high-octane offense starring Nathan MacKinnon at first glance, but Martin Jones still gives the Sharks an advantage in net with his ability to to erase defensive mistakes. San Jose has also had too many quality scoring chances to be kept off ther scoresheet again.

The Sharks stole Game 3 on the road and got a bit complacent in Game 4, but that isn’t the case anymore. We don’t need to rehash the Vegas series, but we know how tough it is to leave the Shark Tank with a playoff win. We’ve seen Colorado do it once already, but twice in three attempts is a bit much to ask. NJ sports betting players should go with San Jose on home ice in Game 5.

Pick: San Jose Sharks -136 moneyline

Best of luck!
