Betting On The NBA For Friday, Jan. 18
AROUND THE LEAGUE: The NBA continues to go global as the Knicks and Wizards played a hard-fought game in London, England on Thursday afternoon. Although the two teams are struggling, the league was well-represented with a thrilling ending as the Wizards took home a win at the buzzer. In other news, the league has been missing it’s greatest asset in LeBron James, who is recovering from an injury. Still, Thursday evening saw his Lakers team pull off an exciting overtime win against Russell Westbrook and the Thunder. The Philadelphia 76ers also topped Indiana to pull into a virtual third-place tie in the east, separating themselves from a the Celtics a bit.

NBA Betting Picks: Top Plays of the Day
Brooklyn Nets @ Orlando Magic (-1.5) - 7pm
Orlando comes into Friday as a 1.5-point favorites over the Nets, according to SugarHouse Sportsbook. Brooklyn is fresh of a thrilling comeback win over the Rockets in Houston and have now pulled to .500 after an 8-18 start to the season. This could be a spot for a letdown given Brooklyn’s tendency to play to its competition, plus the Magic have covered their last four games at home. Still, I’m going to take the better overall team and the free point, or feel free to go +102 on the money line for the Nets.
Pick: Brooklyn Nets +1.5
Golden State Warriors (-7) @ Los Angeles Clippers - 10:30pm
As the first-place Warriors visit the Clippers, they come in as seven-point favorites on SugarHouse Online Sportsbook. After a somewhat slow start by its own standards, two-time defending champion Golden State has won six in a row to shoot to the top of the conference. Los Angeles remains in the western conference playoff picture, but has now lost four games in a row and heading in the opposite direction. The Warriors also welcome big man DeMarcus Cousins to the lineup for the first time all season, meaning we haven’t even seen how good this team can be yet. In Cousins’ first game in uniform for the champs, we could see it get ugly in LA.
Pick: Golden State Warriors -7
New Orleans Hornets @ Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5) - 10:30pm
SugarHouse Sportsbook NJ has the Trail Blazers listed as three-point favorites at home against the Pelicans. New Orleans is coming off a game against Golden State in which they managed to dro 140 points. The bad news is they allowed 147 and rank near the bottom of the league in defense. The Pelicans are also 6-18 on the road this season and facing a Portland team that is 19-7 on its home floor. The Blazers are in the thick of things in the western conference, have won five in a row at home are riding a 7-3 streak over their last 10 overall. This is Portland’s game to win or lose.
Pick: Portland Trail Blazers -2.5
NBA Betting Pick: Over/Under Play of the Day
Cleveland Cavaliers @ Utah Jazz (Over/Under 215.5) - 9pm
For the first time, we are handing out a free over/under play for tonight’s games. SugarHouse Sportsbook has the number for Jazz/Cavaliers set at 215.5 for the game in Utah. With a small slate, it’s good to sometimes take a look at totals to find a flawed line. While NBA teams are certainly capable of nailing the over on any occasion, we look under un Utah as the Jazz take on the lowly Cavs. Last-place Cleveland averages just over just 102.9 points per game, but Utah’s defense could make that number tough to reach tonight. Utah plays strong defense at home, where the under has hit on nine of the last 11 occasions. With the Jazz winners of five straight and at the top of their game, I see them holding down the Cavaliers rather easily. Not sure if they cover the huge number (-15), but I think the combined total stays under 215.5.
Pick: Cavaliers/Jazz Under 215.5
Best of luck!
