AROUND THE LEAGUE: The Golden State Warriors are back atop the Western Conference where they belong, and now it’s been nine straight wins for the two-time defending champions. The streak has coincided with the debut of DeMarcus Cousins, who has helped make Steve Kerr’s team even more of a force to be reckoned with. With Minnesota’s win last night, the Timberwolves are back to the .500 mark. That means every team in the Northwest Division is at .500 or better, while the Central Division in the East has all five teams under the .500 mark, despite two being in playoff position. Once again, most of the league’s power resides in the West.

NBA Betting Picks: Top Plays of the Day
Miami Heat (-8.5) at Cleveland Cavaliers - 7:30pm
According to the SugarHouse Sportsbook NJ NBA lines, Miami visits Cleveland as 8.5-point favorites on Friday evening. The Heat are two games below .500, but still own the final playoff spot in the East. Cleveland has lost five straight games and are now 5-18 on its home floor. They’ve also covered just in just one of its last nine home contests, while the Heat have covered the number in 11 of its last 15 on the road. Those trends are strong enough for me to take the heat in a convincing road win over the Cavaliers, keeping Miami’s grip on that final playoff spot.
Pick: Miami Heat -8.5
New York Knicks @ Brooklyn Nets (-9.5) - 7:30 pm
The Nets come into a home matchup with the crosstown-rival Knicks as 9.5-point favorites, according to SugarHouseOnline Sportsbook. While the Knicks live in the cellar of the conference, the Nets are one of the east’s great success stories. A loss to New York actually helped spawn an incredible run for the Nets, a team now in playoff position. The Knicks have actually covered the number well enough as of late, but Brooklyn is on its home floor tonight and I think that makes a huge difference. The Nets have covered five of the last six at Barclays Center and have done well to cover when playing inside the Atlantic Division. Brooklyn by double digits over the Knicks.
Pick: Brooklyn Nets -9.5
Toronto Raptors @ Houston Rockets (+3) - 8pm
Houston returns home as three-point underdogs, according to the SugarHouse Sportsbook app. Toronto may have a problem with its star as Kawhi Leonard could miss his fifth straight game despite with the same mysterious groin injury that hampered him in San Antonio. The Raptors have covered just two of their last 10 road games and now play one of the league’s top home teams. Houston won but failed to cover against the Knicks despite James Harden’s electric 61-point performance at MSG in the road trip finale. Returning home, I see Harden’s streak of scoring at least 30 points continuing and the Rockets winning. Despite not covering in its last four games, the Rockets won't have to worry about that as three-point underdogs.
Pick: Houston Rockets +3
NBA Betting Pick: Over/Under Play of the Day
Charlotte Hornets @ Milwaukee Bucks (Over/Under 230.5) - 8:30pm
The Bucks aren’t only the top squad in the East, highest-scoring team in the conference as well, averaging over 117 points per game. Charlotte has one of the worst defenses in the league, and I would expect that to show as Milwaukee hosts the Hornets. Six of the Bucks’ last eight have fallen under, but Hornets games have gone over 10 times out of the last 14 on the road. The pace of play should be high, and Charlotte has enough scoring to get this one up above 230 by the time it’s all said and done. The deciding factor for me is these two teams going over the total in four of the last five meetings.
Pick: Hornets/Bucks Over 230.5
Best of luck!
