SugarHouse Sportsbook NCAA Basketball Lines - Today’s Picks By B. Sausa - Jan. 21

As we celebrate the revolutionary legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on this Monday in January, some of our favorite sports are honoring MLK, which also creates a special sports schedule filled with early games. So today, we are going to take a look at some of the top NCAA games on tap and make picks against the spread.

Before you place any bets, be sure to look at all the NJ sportsbooks, including the SugarHouse Sportsbook, as they provide access to some strong NCAA lines. Betting On NCAA Basketball For Monday, Jan. 21

AROUND THE COUNTRY: A fresh top 25 poll was released on Monday morning, with Tennessee (16-1 this season) claiming the No. 1 honors. Duke jumped up to No. 2 with a win over Virginia, which now sits at No. 3. We will make a pick today on new No. 6 Michigan State, which takes on No. 13 Maryland in a marquee matchup. ACC leader No. 10 Virginia Tech seeks a statement win as it travels to No. 19 North Carolina, while Big 12 frontrunner No. 9 Kansas hosts Iowa State looking to bounce back after a tough loss last weekend. As conference play continues, seemingly every day will feature one or more high-profile matchups around the country.

NCAA Basketball Betting Picks: Top Plays of the Day

No. 13 Maryland Terrapins @ No. 6 Michigan State Spartans (-9) - 6:30pm

Michigan State rolls into Monday evening as nine-point favorites over Maryland, according to SugarHouse Sportsbook. These Big Ten schools are two of the hottest in the nation, with Michigan State going for a 12th straight win and Maryland for its eighth in a row. Strong trends are also colliding, with the Spartans covering their last seven against conference opponents and Maryland covering its last six road games. I think Michigan State pulls out a hard-fought win on its home floor, but nine points is likely too much for a Maryland team that can battle in the frontcourt with almost anyone in the country. Spartans for the win, Terrapins for the cover.

Pick: Maryland Terrapins +9

No. 10 Virginia Tech Hokies @ No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels (-4.5) - 7pm

As the Hokies visit the Tar Heels in a major Atlantic Coast Conference clash, they come in as 4.5-point underdogs on the SugarHouse Sportsbook app. Virginia Tech is 10-0 at home, but has only played three games on the road this season and seeks a statement win. The Hokies have also dropped four in a row against the spread, while the Tar Heels have covered four of five following a win, which they picked up on Sunday. North Carolina is also 8-1 on its home floor this season, the only loss coming early last week to Louisville. I think UNC shows Virginia Tech what the upper level of the ACC is all about and takes care of business at home like it normally does.

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels -4.5

Iowa State Cyclones @ Kansas Jayhawks (-4.5) - 9pm

SugarHouse Online Sportsbook has the Big 12 leading Kansas Jayhawks as 4.5-point favorites over second-place Iowa State at home. Iowa State destroyed the Jayhawks by 17 points on its home floor about two weeks ago, and now visits Kansas looking for a season sweep. Kansas is 15-3 overall, but comes off a one-point loss to West Virginia that dropped them in the rankings. Iowa State has covered five of seven overall and four of five against Kansas, but I see the Jayhawks getting revenge for the earlier loss to the Cyclones and bouncing back after a tough defeat last time out. Count on a win for Kansas on its home floor at Phog Allen Fieldhouse, and one by the necessary five points.

Pick: Kansas Jayhawks -4.5

NCAA Basketball Betting Pick: Over/Under Play of the Day

Creighton Blue Jays @ Georgetown Hoyas (Over/Under 165.5)

This is a pretty high total for a college basketball game, but we are still going to hammer them over here. Both of these teams average over 80 points a game this season and while struggling a bit on the defensive end. The trends tell us Georgetown plays conference games at a very high pace, with the over going 14-3 in its last 17 against the Big East. Some of this is due to several games heading into overtime, but we can’t deny the offensive style both squads like to play. With free throws perhaps factoring in late, but one slides over.

Pick: Creighton/Georgetown Over 165.5

Best of luck!
