Betting On NCAA Basketball For Tuesday, Jan. 22

AROUND THE COUNTRY: No. 11 North Carolina flexed its ACC muscles as it denied No. 10 Virginia Tech the statement win they were looking for as UNC trampled to a 21-point win. No. 9 Kansas overcame a halftime deficit to avenge an earlier loss to No. 24 Iowa State and keep the top spot in the Big 12, improving its home record to 12-0. No. 6 Michigan State secured a 12th straight win with a thorough handling of No. 13 Maryland in East Lansing. Tom Izzo’s Spartans are now 8-0 in the conference and 10-0 at home.

NCAA Basketball Betting Picks: Top Plays of the Day

No. 18 Villanova Wildcats @ Butler Bulldogs (-1) - 7pm

Butler hosts No. 18 Villanova as 1.5-point favorites in Tuesday’s Big East clash. It’s not often you get Villanova as an underdog, let alone when they are red hot. The Wildcats have won six straight and eight of 10. The Bulldogs hold a huge home-court advantage, where they’ve gone 9-1 this season, and Butler has also covered four of its last five games. Still, I’m taking the better overall team with the free point. The pick is Jay Wright’s Villanova team getting a win on the road at Butler for the first time in three years.

Pick: Villanova Wildcats +1

No. 22 Mississippi State Bulldogs @ No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats (-6.5) - 7pm

SugarHouse Online Sportsbook set this game’s spread at -6.5. Mississippi State and Kentucky enter this game with identical 14-3 records, but these two teams are not the same. The Bulldogs have only played three true road games and now walk into Rupp Arena where Kentucky is 10-0 this season. Granted, the Wildcats have had trouble dominating teams and are a mediocre 8-9 against the spread and just 4-6 at home. Still, Kentucky is hitting its stride with four straight wins and it feels like a fifth is on tap for tonight. Wildcats run away in the second half and cover the number.

Pick: Kentucky Wildcats -6.5

Indiana Hoosiers @ Northwestern Wildcats (-1) - 9pm

These two Big 10 teams are pretty evenly matched as evidenced by the small spread, but Indiana is likely the more talented team overall. However, they’re underdogs due to some awful play on the road (1-5 overall) while Northwestern is a solid home team (8-3 overall). The Wildcats have only covered one of its last five, but a win here is virtually the same as a cover, and the home team has won this matchup seven times in a row. Give me Northwestern and the small line on its home floor.

Pick: Northwestern Wildcats -1

NCAA Basketball Betting Pick: Over/Under Play of the Day

Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ No. 3 Virginia Cavaliers (Over/Under 130.5 points) - 9pm

The SugarHouse Sportsbook app set this game’s over/under at 130.5 points. Virginia games are always low on totals, which makes taking an under tricky. Still, taking the over can be even trickier, as their stout defense is good enough to shut down some of the best offenses in the country. Wake Forest doesn’t possess one of those high-powered offenses anyway, and them taking an 0-5 road record to Virginia is no recipe for success. Wake will struggle to score mightily and Virginia will roll to an easy win that keeps this game under 130.5 total points.

Pick: Wake Forest/Virginia under 130.5 points

Best of luck!
