SugarHouse Sportsbook NHL Lines - Today’s Picks By B. Sausa - Jan. 15

After a small NHL slate to begin the week, Tuesday provides a full 10-game schedule and plenty of opportunities to stack the bank account. SugarHouse Sportsbook has hockey lines available early and often, giving us every opportunity to weigh our options before making a wager. Here on BonusSeeker, we will be using the SugarHouse Sportsbook app betting lines to make NHL predictions on multiple occasions each week.

SugarHouse Sportsbook NJ currently has an incredible online promotion going if you’re an NJ sports betting player looking for more chances to win. The SugarHouse Sportsbook first-time deposit match bonus will award you up to 100% of your initial deposit for the first $250. That’s right! SugarHouse will match your first deposit up to $250 if you head over and sign up right now.

Betting On The NHL For Tuesday, Jan. 15

As we move into the second part of January and well into the second half of the season, NJ sports betting players are learning the NHL is unlike other professional leagues in terms of its parity. The same thing that makes hockey sometimes difficult to handicap in terms of betting is what makes the league so fun to watch. There are more strong teams than there are playoff spots, meaning each game and each point is of huge importance. Teams who find themselves on a short losing streak could suddenly be out of a playoff spot, and on the flipside a couple of wins strung together could propel a squad into postseason position. With less than two weeks to play before breaking for the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose, teams are looking to stack up points before getting some much-needed time off.

Puck Line Suggestions

***FOR YOUR INFORMATION: Puck Line (PL) betting in hockey means that you are not only wagering on a team to merely win the game, since that is what betting on the money line (ML) is. The puck line is a 1.5-goal spread that either gives the underdog some cushion on a loss, or forces a favorite to win by at least two goals in order to cash a victory on the wager. The odds for this type of bet correspond with which side you pick, as selecting a team that must win by two goals (-1.5) creates much better odds, and selecting a team on the other side (+1.5) worsens odds. Many times, a win or a loss in these types of bets comes down to the making or missing of an empty-net tally while the score is within one late in the contest.

PUCK LINE EXAMPLE: Let’s say the Capitals are -195 on the money line, but +135 on the puck line. This means one would have to wager $195 for every $100 on Washington securing a win. On the puck line, since Washington must win by two goals (-1.5), the payout is a much more robust +135. This means for a $100 wager on a two-goal victory, the bet would pay $135.***

New Jersey Devils [+1.5 (-162), +167 ML] @ Columbus Blue Jackets [-1.5 (+130), -200 ML] - 7pm

The Devils continued their strong play on the road with a wild 8-5 win over Chicago, but now face a well-rested Columbus team on the road after traveling. This doesn’t bode well for New Jersey, which is 1-6 in its last seven playing the second of a back-to-back. The Blue Jackets have come out on top in five of their last six at home and have won five in a row against the Devils. Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo just beat the champion Capitals over the weekend, and picks up a win against the Devils on Tuesday.

Pick: Columbus Blue Jackets -1.5

Los Angeles Kings [+1.5 (-200), +148 ML] @ Minnesota Wild [-1.5 (+155), -177 ML] - 8pm

We could see a backup in net for Minnesota since they are playing on consecutive nights, but they are still in a great spot to grab a much-needed win. Los Angeles comes in last in the Western Conference and tied for last in the entire league. The Kings struggle to put pucks in the net on a regular basis and a tough road environment isn’t where I see a turnaround starting to take place. Minnesota is battling for its playoff lives and will be ready to seize two points from a lesser opponent. Tack on an empty-netter for the Wild to cover the SugarHouse Sportsbook puck line.

Pick: Minnesota Wild -1.5

NHL Betting Pick: Top Play of the Day

St Louis Blues [+1.5 (-235), +118 ML] @ New York Islanders [-1.5 (+185), -137 ML] - 7pm

The Blues were able to pull off a road win over the Capitals, but now faces a hot Islanders team after traveling overnight. New York was able to take care of a tired Lightning team last time out and should be able to do the same here at the start of the game. St. Louis has won four of five, but the Islanders have won eight of 10 and are streaking in the Metropolitan. New York is likely to see a backup in net for the Blues and should look to continue playing well on home ice. Islanders for the win is the top play of the day.

Pick: New York Islanders -137

NHL Betting Pick: Underdog Play of the Day

Vegas Golden Knights [+1.5 (-275), +104 ML] @ Winnipeg Jets [-1.5 (+210), -124 ML]- 8pm

Picking against the Jets at home is never really advised, but we are picking our spots here. Both teams have 60 points, although Winnipeg leads their division while Vegas clings to third in its own. The Golden Knights ride in scorching hot as winners of eight of nine games. Although the Jets are a dominant home team, Vegas seems to have their number a bit. They are only a slight underdog for SugarHouse Sportsbook, but it still counts and we will take the plus money with a well-rested Vegas team.

Pick: Vegas Golden Knights +104

Best of luck!
