Puck Line Suggestions:

***FOR YOUR INFORMATION: Puck Line (PL) betting in hockey means that you are not only wagering on a team to merely win the game, since that is what betting on the money line (ML) is. The puck line is a 1.5-goal spread that either gives the underdog some cushion on a loss, or forces a favorite to win by at least two goals in order to cash a victory on the wager. The odds for this type of bet correspond with which side you pick, as selecting a team that must win by two goals (-1.5) creates much better odds, and selecting a team on the other side (+1.5) worsens odds. Many times, a win or a loss in these types of bets comes down to the making or missing of an empty-net tally while the score is within one late in the contest.

PUCK LINE EXAMPLE: The Lightning are -195 on the money line, meaning one would have to wager $195 for every $100 on Tampa Bay securing a win. On the puck line, since Tampa Bay must win by two goals (-1.5) the payout is a much more robust +135. This means for a $100 wager on a two-goal victory, the bet would pay $135.***

Columbus Blue Jackets [+1.5 (-175), +155 ML] @ Tampa Bay Lightning [-1.5 (+135), -195 ML] - 7:30pm

The Lightning, who sit atop the entire league with 66 points, didn’t drop a regulation game all of December (13-0-1), having the extended streak finally ended in their last contest against San Jose. Columbus is hot at the moment and very good on the road, but Tampa Bay is even better on home ice and happy to return from the road trip. I think the Bolts take care of business, beating Columbus for the fifth time in a row, with three of the previous four wins coming by multiple goals. If you want to take the Lightning just to win this one without the extra goal, it’s a hefty price at -195, but could be worth it based on how often they win games.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5

Florida Panthers (+1.5, +170 ML)  @ Pittsburgh Penguins (-1.5, -205 ML) - 7pm

The Penguins are another team that is incredibly hot (8-2 in last 10) that fell in their last outing. After a 5-3 loss to the lowly Blackhawks, Pittsburgh sits a heavy favorite over Florida according to the SugarHouse Sportsbook app. When looking at this game and how the Penguins are trending, it’s easy to figure they bounce back at home against an average team in the Panthers. Pittsburgh knows it must keep pace with Washington in the Metropolitan division, and that means winning games against lesser teams in the conference. On the money line, the Penguins are an enormous favorite to win at -205.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5

NHL Betting Pick: Top Play of the Day

Colorado Avalanche (-1.5, +138 ML) @ Winnipeg Jets (-1.5, -165 ML) - 8pm

Frankly, the Jets don’t lose very much on home ice, so I am taking their money line when they host the Avalanche on Tuesday evening.. The Central division’s top team going into play this week, Winnipeg is 14-6-2 at Bell MTS Place, including a 5-1 win against Dallas last time out. Colorado recently ended a six-game skid with a win over the Rangers to close the homestead. Still, the Avalanche are dealing with a whole different animal in the Winnipeg offense. Add in the play from both Connor Hellebuyck and stellar backup Laurent Brossoit in net, the Jets take another huge advantage into Tuesday night vs. the Avalanche and get another home win.

Pick: Winnipeg Jets -165

NHL Betting Pick: Underdog Value Play of the Day

Edmonton Oilers (+1.5, +180 ML) @ San Jose Sharks (-1.5, -225 ML) - 10:30pm

If you’re looking for a road dog to back on Tuesday, I’m going to suggest the Edmonton Oilers on the road with a payout of +180, according to SugarHouse Sportsbook. The Sharks currently sit in a playoff position and are 6-2-2 in their last 10, but this may be the right time to catch them. With starter Martin Jones in net on Monday night, Edmonton could see a backup for San Jose’s second game of a back-to-back. Granted, the Sharks won’t travel and are playing at home, the Oilers aren’t terrible on the road. Unlike most mediocre teams, the Edmonton plays just as well away from home as on their own ice. Take a shot with the Oilers here.

Pick: Edmonton Oilers +180

Best of luck!
