The early part of the National Football League season continues with Week 3, so we're here to analyze NFL betting odds and make some Thursday Night Football predictions!
Kickoff is set for 8:20 PM from TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville as the bright lights are on the AFC South as Tennessee Titans (1-1) and Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) each play divisional opponents for the second straight week early in the season.
The Jaguars enter Thursday Night as a slight home underdog with Tennessee being 1.5-point favorites according to odds from SugarHouse Sportsbook. The total is currently the lowest of the week at 40 points after these teams combined to score 29 during Week 2.
Titans Vs. Jaguars - TNF Picks And Predictions Week 3
This week, we are using NFL betting lines from one of the best NJ sportsbooks around in SugarHouse, which has also launched to kick-start online sports betting in Pennsylvania as well.
After some research, we can see that Tennessee is seeing more of the action early in the week. Despite this, more of the actual dollars seem to be on Jacksonville, since the moneyline and spread have stuck around the same figures they opened at. The total opened on a key number of 41 but was quickly bet down to its current standing, another key number of 40.
Titans Betting Preview Week 3
After an impressive win on the road in Week 1, Tennessee regressed massively in a 19-17 home loss in Week 2. This team is 1-1 against the spread and in the standings and remains a complete mystery from a betting standpoint.
The defense is not to blame, as it recorded two turnovers and three sacks while keeping a solid offense under 20 points for a second week in a row. That bodes well against Gardner Minshew II, who will be playing just his second NFL game for the Jags.
Marcus Mariota was sacked four times behind inadequate protection while the passing game accounted for just 154 yards. A date with Jacksonville's defense on the road won't make things easier, and Tennessee will continue to rely on Derrick Henry and the run game.
Jaguars Betting Preview Week 3
To Jacksonville's credit, it didn't pack things in after losing its newly-signed quarterback in Week 1.
After an admirable relief performance, Gardner Minshew II started his first game and rallied the Jags to within a two-point conversion of an improbable win. Minshew's comfort and confidence level should only increase after leading his team back from the dead, even if it's another strong defense he's going up against.
The bad news is star cornerback Jalen Ramsey is unhappy and asked for a trade, which undoubtedly impacts a defense that needs to keep its offense in nearly every game it plays.
Week 3 TNF Titans Vs. Jaguars Betting Line
To this point, the spread not moving despite Tennessee's popularity is the most alarming thing. Oddsmakers and sharp bettors are aware Ramsey is soon-to-be traded and that the Jaguars don't have an explosive offense, but haven't sided with the Titans at such a low number. Now add in the fact that this team is traveling in the short week.
Tennessee is remarkably inconsistent, and picking Jacksonville's response to the distractions this week is a guessing game as well. With that said, we're going with the Jags as the home underdog for the first of our Week 3 NFL predictions Minshew has growing confidence and Leonard Fournette to rely on to sustain drives against a defense that allowed 167 rushing yards last week.
Pick: Jaguars +1.5 (-110) - Place your bet at SugarHouse NJ Sportsbook
Thursday Night Football Picks: Titans Vs. Jags Total
This total opened up on one key number of 41 and has since found its way down to another key number of 40 (-110) for sports betting at SugarHouse PA.
While the action was on the under at first, a popular NFL betting strategy is taking the deflated over in a game between two teams that went under the week before, as Tennessee and Jacksonville did. In this case, however, we'd advocate taking the under before it lowers any more, and we'd even recommend an alternate total of 42 (-143 on SugarHouse) to cover both key numbers.
Pick: Under 40 Points (-110)
NFL Week 3 Parlay Picks: Thursday Night Football
SugarHouse has quickly established itself as one of the top sports betting sites in PA, partially because of the markets it offers, including same-game parlays that combine the total with the moneyline or spread.
Using our TNF predictions of The Jaguars and the under, we can combine the two for a strong payout of +300, which also bumps the total up to 40.5 for us. Despite the spread being so small, the value with Tennessee (+210)is also far less than that of the home underdog.
Pick: Jaguars +1.5 &Under 40.5 (+300) - Place NFL Parlay Bets At SugarHouse PA
NFL Betting Tips For Thursday Night Football
When it comes to making Thursday Night Football picks, the strategy and mindset are a bit different from betting on Sundays. It's similar to Monday in that there's just one game, but different in the fact that the entire week is in front of you, not behind you. Keep these NFL betting tips in mind when making Week 3 TNF predictions:
- Explore Props And Parlays Markets
The betting public and sharps are all over the moneyline, total and spread of the Thursday Night Game. Most online sportsbooks will offer at least some additional betting markets, which have lines less influenced by bettors. Some of these markets and odds, which include props and parlays, can offer more value as an alternative to a conventional straight bet.
- Don't Bet Too Big
On plenty of occasions, making TNF predictions is a crapshoot between the lack of rest and time to prepare. Games tend to be sloppy and results unpredictable, as we saw with TampaBay in Week 2. It's a long week, don't bet everything you've got on Thursday with an entire slate of games for you on Sunday if you aren't extremely confident.
- Take Additional Factors Into Account
In a short week, teams have less time for everything including rest and preparation. A team with injuries and/or preparing for a strong opponent in two days could struggle on Thursday night, and whether or not a team has to travel while gearing up for the game is another thing to consider.
