After winning at home in Week 1, the Jacksonville Jaguars return to TIAA Bank Field to host the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, September 24 at 8:20 PM EST. At FanDuel Sportsbook, the Dolphins opened as one-point favorites but following Week 2 action, the Jaguars have ballooned to 2.5-point favorites and now have a moneyline of -141 on DraftKings.

At the time of this article’s original writing, the Jags were +1 and -108 on the moneyline, and we were all over it. But since the odds have changed so much, we’ll use the updated spread to make this more relevant for the line most bettors are getting. For us, it doesn’t change the prediction, just the value on the odds.
It’s only Week 3 following a training camp with no preseason, so the identity of most teams isn’t fully formed. With that said, the little bit we’ve seen so far has to count for something. Because honestly, we came into the season thinking Jags may be the worst team in the NFL. In the early going, it doesn’t look that way at all.
Against Indianapolis, Jacksonville got competent quarterback play from Gardner Minshew II and capitalized on turnovers to win as a heavy underdog. Against Tennessee, the Jaguars battled from behind nearly all game and scored 30 points to push the Titans to the brink.
Miami turned the ball over three times in its Week 1 loss and even though things got better in Week 2, efficient play from Minshew II against the Dolphins’ defense could still spell trouble.
The Dolphins are in need of a win and have Seattle on the schedule in Week 4, so we should see a desperate team. With that said, the propensity to turn the ball over and lackluster defense makes me think Jacksonville can score enough to win once again in front of its home fans. Miami has to prove it can stop the bleeding on defense before getting any of my money, even with 2.5 points and easy travel this week.
If you were on this line before the Week 2 action as we were, you got some amazing value at Jacksonville -108 and +1 (-115). Even though some of that value is gone, we’d still take the Jags -2.5 (-114) at home for our Thursday Night Football picks. Once the line gets to three points and above, however, it’s time to look the other way or lay off.
