As we saw in the AAF, a consistent passing offense is the most difficult thing to establish in a league such as this one. Jones completed 62 percent of his passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns in DC’s 31-19 win over Seattle and is one of the elite talents of the entire league.

With that said, the Defenders are facing a much more capable defensive unit in this game based on what we saw in Week 1. The Guardians were underdogs at home against Tampa Bay, a team coached by one-time NFL offensive guru Marc Trestman. And they didn’t only win the game, their defense dominated at all three levels.

If New York can get in Jones’ face a little bit, the Defenders’ advantages on offense could be negated a bit by Kevin Gilbride’s team. The DC offense turned it over twice last week and fell asleep late in the game, needing a long interception return to ice it away. The Guardians’ offense was nothing special with Matt McGloin but also didn’t make any disastrous mistakes to cost the team points.

Entering Week 2, the Tampa Bay Vipers are three-point road favorites against the Seattle Dragons. Oddsmakers are respecting Tampa Bay because of Trestman as head coach, but what does that mean for our XFL picks?

The Vipers aren’t a team we can back until you see Aaron Murray and the passing game succeed on some level. Murray completed under 50 percent of his passes with two interceptions in Week 1 and is now banged up, which may lead to Quinton Flowers playing under center. Whether it’s an ineffective Murray or Flowers’ debut as a starter at QB, there’s a built-in advantage for the hometown Dragons.

Seattle played pretty well on offense and may score some points once again against Tampa Bay. QB Brandon Silvers turned it over twice but also tossed three touchdowns and found nine different receivers in the process.

If not for allowing a 4th-down play that goes for a 31-yard touchdown or a 69-yard interception return, the Dragons may have pulled off a serious upset in Week 1. Although it didn’t happen, we like the Dragons to cover for our Week 2 XFL predictions and maybe even win outright.

XFL Picks Week 2: Renegades vs Wildcats Prediction

After sustaining the most surprising loss of Week 1, the Dallas Renegades are 4.5-point favorites over the LA Wildcats. The way we see it, this price sounds like a bargain for what may be the most talented team in the league. Dallas was the preseason favorite to win the XFL Championship and remains among the teams with the lowest odds even after losing Week 1.

Renegades QB Landry Jones is reunited with college coach Bob Stoops (Oklahoma) and has the most NFL experience under center of any player in the league. He was unable to play in Week 1 and that had a massive effect on the Renegades offense, so him playing in Week 2 makes all the difference.

On the other side, the Wildcats fired their defensive coordinator after allowing a league-high 37 points in Week 1. With one team in disarray and the other getting the starting QB back (hopefully), we’ll bet on Dallas to rebound as one of our XFL best bets.

It’s no surprise that the two teams with the most capable QB play in Week 1 (DC and Houston) wound up scoring the most points and virtually dominating. The most impressive player of the week was Houston QB P.J. Walker, who accounted for 298 total yards and four touchdowns in the Roughnecks’ blowout win.

Walker was a bit of an unexpected breakout star and now, Houston enters Week 2 as a pretty huge eight-point favorite against the St. Louis BattleHawks. After winning as an underdog in Week 1, St. Louis has the task of repeating what it did against Dallas.

The BattleHawks led the XFL with 191 rushing yards thanks to RB Matt Jones and dual-threat QB Jordan Ta’amu. It didn’t lead to so many points in a defensive slugfest with Dallas, but St. Louis’ ability to move the ball could have more success against Houston’s defense.

2020 XFL Rules: How Many Games Does The XFL Play?

Here is some key information for how the rebooted league is going to run the second time around after its sole season in 2001. The new XFL regular season is 10 games long with each of the eight teams getting five contests both home and away. There are some special rules that have fans and bettors buzzing as well including the following:

• There are no extra points. Teams can choose to go for one, two, or three extra points with an offensive play from the two, five, or 10-yard line after scoring a touchdown.
• The new XFL kickoff lines special teams units up just five yards apart to eliminate high-speed collisions, while also discouraging the empty play that is a touchback.
• The double-forward pass rule allows teams to throw multiple forward passes on one play, so long as the first completion was made behind the line of scrimmage.
• XFL overtime rules consist of five rounds with each team alternating single-play possessions, similar to soccer penalty kicks or a shootout in hockey. Each scoring play is worth two points.

The XFL playoffs will consist of four teams, the top two from each division, in a postseason that lasts two weeks culminating with the 2020 XFL Championship Game in late April.
