The first of many PA sportsbooks in the Keystone state is Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course. The casino conducted a "live wagering test day," on Thursday afternoon, marking the first time legalized sports gambling has occurred in Pennsylvania.
William Hill USA is in operation with Hollywood Casino sportsbook, overseeing that the staff and equipment are in line with regulatory requirements.
Penn National CEO, Timothy Wilmott gave his thoughts on the development, “Penn National is excited to be the first casino to offer sports wagering in Pennsylvania. The enthusiasm around sports betting has been growing since the federal ban was repealed in May, and we look forward to providing our patrons with another great amenity to enjoy at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.”
And Dan Ihm, general manager at Hollywood Casino, discussed his appreciation, “We are extremely appreciative for the tireless effort and support of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. They moved heaven and earth to get us to this point and we couldn’t be more excited to be Pennsylvania’s first sportsbook.”
Hollywood Casino sports betting comes soon after Penn National took part in a deal to operate a casino property in Detroit, and will seek legalized sports betting in Michigan.
Hollywood Casino’s sports wagering launch took off after the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced the Valley Forge Casino Resort applied to become the sixth PA casino to offer sports betting.
The expectation is that all systems for Pennsylvania sports betting should be a go shortly after Thanksgiving.
