PA Sports Betting Launches Fifth Sportsbook With South Philadelphia Turf Club

PA sports betting is finally spreading to South Philadelphia, courtesy of Greenwood Racing Inc. and Kambi, launching a Pennsylvania sportsbook at the Turf Club in South Philadelphia. The Turf Club Sportsbook underwent a two-day testing period on last Tuesday and Wednesday and has been approved by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Greenwood Racing had a ribbon-cutting ceremony that Thursday at 1 pm, following the PGCB approval.

South Philadelphia Turf Club Will Be Greenwood’s Second PA Sportsbook

The PA sportsbook at the South Philadelphia Turf Club plays a key role in Greenwood’s overall strategy to launch PA sports betting at all its properties. The launch at Buck Country’s Parx Casino was the company’s first big step, although an official Parx Sportsbook grand opening will be delayed until Greenwood finishes its $10-million project for a new venue.

The expansion plans also include renovations at the South Philadelphia Turf Club, worth up to $1 million. The investment covers seven live tellers, nine betting kiosks, numerous new TV screens and a brand new bar. This will be the most major reconstruction of the venue since the 2000 9,500 sq. feet expansion.

PA Sports Betting Is Still Growing

PA Sportsbooks are still anxious to learn just how big of a piece they can get from the sports betting market. Reports show that prior to legalization, the illegal sports betting market had reached an estimated worth of $150 billion, a number that is likely to only grow. NJ sports betting is already closing in on $1 billion in handle through six months of operations.

The current PA sportsbooks in operation are as follows:

• SugarHouse Sportsbook
• Rivers Sportsbook
• Parx Sportsbook

There are two more Pennsylvania sportsbooks on the way for 2019:

• Harrah’s Philadelphia Sportsbook
• Valley Forge Sportsbook

Presque Isle Downs & Casino has applied for a sports betting license, but have yet to receive approval from the PGCB.

With five live PA sportsbooks and more on the way, South Philadelphia is now set with Turf Club Sportsbook, which could be a major player in PA sports betting considering its prime location.

• Monday-Thursday: 12 pm-12 am
• Friday: 12 pm-2 am
• Saturday: 10 am-2 am
  Sunday: 10 am-12 am
