PA Sports Betting To Continue Expansion In 2019

PA Sports Betting To Continue Expansion In 2019

Following the U.S. Supreme Court decision to light the path for legal sports betting in 2017, the industry has exploded in a number of states. NJ sports betting is the prime example, taking only a few months to surpass $1 billion in handle. Neighboring Pennsylvania sports betting kicked off in November 2018 and has begun cutting it’s slice of the pie, but now wants a bigger piece.

There are currently eight sportsbooks opened for PA sports betting inside casinos throughout the state, including:

Mohegan Sun Pocono, Mount Airy Resort & Casino Aim To Offer PA Sports Betting

The Keystone State raked in over $81 million in revenue in its first four months through February 2019, according to figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, which at the time came from six PA sportsbook locations before Valley Forge Casino and Valley Forge Turf Club joined the fray in March 2019. Two more PA casinos, Mohegan Sun Pocono and Mount Airy Resort & Casino, have since applied for licenses to offer PA sports betting with hopes of eventually rivaling states like New Jersey when it comes to generating sports betting revenue.

According to general manager Tony Carlucci, the addition of PA sports betting to Mohegan Sun Pocono Casino will not only attract more people to the venue, but create jobs with the  opening kiosks and the need for live tellers at sports betting windows.  In Mount Airy Resort & Casino's case, it was approved for an interactive gaming license in August 2018, which would allow it to offer PA mobile sports betting at some point. Currently, PA online sports betting isn’t legal and has yet to follow the lead of states like New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada If approved to begin offering sports wagering, each casino looking to move into the PA sportsbook market will have to pay a $10 million licensing fee.

Mohegan Sun Pocono Partners With Unibet To Offer PA Online Sports Betting

Knowing how important partnerships are for new sportsbooks to succeed, Mohegan Sun Pocono inked a deal with Unibet to be the casino’s interactive gaming and sports betting operator. The newest PA sportsbook is intended to use the Unibet brand to provide customers with a sports betting lounge at Mohegan Sun Pocono along with an elite online casino and online sports betting experience. Unibet is one of the brands under the umbrella the Kindred Group, popular online gambling operator.

Some players from Pennsylvania have already gotten an idea of what PA mobile sports betting will be like through experiences with NJ online sportsbooks. Through Mohegan Sun’s Unibet-sponsored PA online sportsbook, players will be able to wager on a large variety of sports and leagues around the world from the convenience of their mobile device.
