Pennsylvania sports betting online looks to take off sooner than the PA online gambling launch on July 15.
With the announcement of PA online casinos going live on July 15 after an extensive waiting period, the call for PA sports betting has increased with no definitive launch date set. However, sources state that PA sports betting is ready to expand even sooner than the PA gambling online launch of July 15. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported in mid-April that they expect to begin live testing of PA online sports betting apps for at least one of the approved casino vendors within the next couple of weeks. While we wait impatiently for that testing to begin, which would officially signal the launch of online sports betting in Pennsylvania, these are the approved Pennsylvania sportsbooks that could be testing PA online sports betting soon, as well as their partner in PA sports betting.
- SugarHouse Sportsbook (Kambi)
- Rivers Sportsbook (Kambi)
- Parx Sportsbook (Kambi)
- Hollywood Sportsbook (William Hill)
- Parx/South Philadelphia Turf Club Sportsbook (Kambi)
- Harrahs Sportsbook Philadelphia (Scientific Games)
- Valley Forge Casino (FanDuel Sportsbook PA)
- Valley Forge Race and Sportsbook (Kambi)
- Presque Isle Downs Sportsbook (CDI)
Two casinos have applied for PA sports betting but have yet to be approved:
- Mohegan Sun Pocono (Kindred Group/Unibet)
- Mount Airy Casino (BetStars)
NJ Sports Betting Online, FanDuel Sportsbook Showing Record Numbers Ahead Of Launch Of PA Online Sports Betting
New Jersey sports betting has continued to produce great numbers, including a handle of over $372 million in March for both online and land-based sportsbooks. This includes March Madness bets, but does not include the Final Four or the NCAA Basketball National Championship game. The state was able to gain $31.7 million in revenue from their 10 retail sportsbooks as well as 13 NJ online sportsbooks. NJ online sports betting alone brought in $24.2 million in revenue on a nearly $300 million handle.
FanDuel Sportsbook NJ was the clear-cut winner out of those NJ online sportsbooks, as they overtook DraftKings Sportsbook NJ in Feb. 2019 and cemented their top-dog status in NJ online sportsbooks with $13.32 million in NJ online sports betting revenue. FanDuel Sportsbook is partnered with Valley Forge Casino and could look to take over the top spot in PA online sports betting as well once given the go-ahead.
PA Sports Betting Generating More Revenue In Lead-Up To Pennsylvania Online Sports Betting
In what is great timing for the start of Pennsylvania online sports betting, PA sports betting showed its strongest month in March 2019, with $44,527,574 in wagers bringing in $5,519,340 in revenue for the month. This is currently with only eight retail PA sports betting locations and without online wagering, so the advantage of mobile sports betting in Pennsylvania combined with the continued gain in Pennsylvania sports betting is looking promising for future revenue.
Rivers Casino Sportsbook is currently the leader of the pack in PA sportsbooks, taking in $1.34 million in revenue on $11.3 million in wagers in March, and will be looking to be the industry leader in PA sports betting online once it's launched. SugarHouse Casino Sportsbook is also considered a major player in PA sports betting with gross revenue of $1.23 million on $9.2 million in bets. Be sure that they're both looking toward NJ online sports betting as the blueprint for success as their handle is over $1 billion so far in 2019 and climbing.
