The Eagles opened up as seven-point favorites over the Giants before last week’s action. Following New York’s win and Philadelphia’s loss, however, the spread shrunk to Eagles -6 (-115) with the total currently set at 44.5 points, according to BetMGM NFL lines.
On one hand, it’s hard to imagine the Eagles beating any team by more than a touchdown. On the other hand, the Giants don’t exactly instill confidence in bettors, even with six points to work with. It’s true that the Giants won a game in Week 6 when they outlasted Washington by a 20-19 score, but we aren’t getting fooled by that result.
According to metrics from Football Outsiders, the Giants’ offensive line ranks last when it comes to run blocking, and the offense as a whole worst efficiency rating of any team. Judging by those numbers, there isn’t an area of the field where we see the Giants consistently moving the football.
The Eagles do struggle in pass protection on offense, shown by the fact that Carson Wentz has been sacked 17 times in the past four games. Unfortunately, we’re not sure the Giants’ pass rush isn’t equipped to take advantage. And even though the Eagles suffered another defeat in Week 6, they played pretty inspiring football in the second half and nearly came back on one of the league’s elite teams.
Despite being under almost constant pressure, Wentz has managed to play well enough in three straight games. There’s definitely some concern with Zach Ertz and Miles Sanders out, but Desean Jackson is back in the fold and Boston Scott is a shifty threat out of the backfield. Monitor that going into Thursday and consider fading entirely if the Eagles have absolutely nobody in there. But if you’re going to make TNF predictions no matter what, we’d go with Philly.
Considering the home team having the advantage on Thursday nights due to travel and practice time, it’s not too hard to go with Philadelphia for our Eagles vs. Giants picks.
Playing a few close games in a row might put the public on New York a little more than it ought to be. Take the Eagles at less than a touchdown against the spread. Philadelphia in a teaser is also a great play.
