West Virginia Online Casinos Are Now Legal

West Virginia online casinos will soon be here as it becomes the fifth state to have legal online casinos in the US. The hope of those that wanted legal WV online casinos and to play online poker in West Virginia is finally coming to fruition.

House Bill 2934, also known as the West Virginia Lottery Interactive Wagering Act, became law after the House passed it in February, and the Senate overwhelmingly approved it after making amendments to the bill. West Virginia law dictated that Gov. Jim Justice had 15 days to either sign the bill or veto the bill after it passed the state legislature on March 9, but did neither of those things. And in West Virginia, if nothing is done to a bill once it reaches the Governor's desk after those 15 days are up, the bill becomes law.

West Virginia Joins New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Delaware To Legalizing Online Casinos In The US

West Virginia now becomes the fifth state in the United States to legalize online gambling. Currently, those other four states are:

Pennsylvania online casinos is an intriguing situation with regards to legal online gambling in West Virginia. Legal online gambling in PA was made law in Oct. 2017, but the PA online casinos have yet to be launched. With no firm launch date, it is generally accepted that online casinos in PA will happen during the summer of 2019. West Virginia online casinos could be up and running before neighboring Pennsylvania, but a more realistic timeframe for online casinos in West Virginia to be up and running is early 2020.

Five West Virginia Casinos Could Apply For Permits To Operate WV Online Casinos

There are currently five land-based casinos in West Virginia that would be given a chance to apply for the five available permits for online gambling in West Virginia. Those five casinos are:

Mountaineer Casino is owned by Eldorado Resorts, who entered a 20-year partnership with PokerStars and their parent company The Stars Group last November. This gives them access to WV online poker, WV online sports betting and WV online casino games. Each license will cost the West Virginia land-based casinos $250,000 for a five-year license and additional five-year licenses after that initial payment can be had for $100,000. Revenue from online casinos in West Virginia would be taxed at a 15 percent clip.

BetLucky Still In Holding Pattern After WV Sports Betting Online Went Live

BetLucky Sportsbook, powered by Delaware North, became the first ever West Virginia sports betting mobile app. Unfortunately for sports bettors in WV, Delaware North has ended its partnership with its supplier, Miomni. Therefore, the BetLucky app is currently not taking new players, essentially putting WV sports betting on hold until a resolution arises.
