WV Sports Betting Heats Up As BetLucky Sportsbook Enters The Market

Over four months have passed since the first West Virginia sportsbooks started accepting legal sports wagers. That’s just enough time for the landscape of the WV sports betting industry to settle in and for market leaders to emerge. And now with BetLucky Sportsbook becoming the first WV sports betting app, offering online wagering, the market will heat up even further.

The state's current WV sportsbooks:

The numbers reported by Hollywood Casino, Mountaineer Casino, Wheeling Island Hotel and the rest are humble, but not discouraging. Up until Jan. 5, these sportsbooks handled $42.6 million in sports wagers and reported $5.5 million in revenue and $552,805 in taxes.

Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races Is WV Sports Betting Leader

What’s true in New Jersey seems to be true in West Virginia - the first sportsbook to launch gets to stay at the top. In the case of WV sports betting, it’s Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

Hollywood Sportsbook has set all kinds of WV sports betting records. Not only is it the most profitable WV sportsbook, but it’s the only one to ever take in over $1 million in wagers in a single week. It’s also the only one to do it four times!

Its speedy launch is far from the only reason behind Hollywood Casino’s success. Charles Town Races has one of the best locations in the state, close to the borders with Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC.

Mountaineer Casino sits proudly at second place, followed by Wheeling Island Hotel and Mardi Gras Casino, both of which have doubled their revenue in their second week. There is also a clear candidate for the bottom spot - FanDuel Sportsbook at The Greenbrier, which still operates exclusively for club members, keeping its revenue far below what public WV sportsbooks have reported.

BetLucky - The Only Online WV Sportsbook

BetLucky, the only WV sports betting app, serves as a mobile operator in Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island Hotel. The BetLucky app has yet to enjoy the same success it has in Nevada and NJ sports betting. But this early on, that should be expected.

BetLucky Sportsbook has earned roughly $50,000 for Wheeling Island Hotel for the first two weeks of 2019 and an underwhelming $30,000 for Mardi Gras Casino. it will be interesting to see how BetLucky fairs once larger brands like DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook, once they join the market.
